Has anyone played it yet? I've been waiting well over a decade for the next installment of the Half-Life franchise so I was disappointed to see that it turned out to be a VR exclusive, as that's not something I'm willing to invest in yet.

I would probably go to a store that had a model so you could try it out if they did have one.

I know it's a big price tag and I wouldn't really want VR for much else but it has phenomenal reviews I saw people playing it for like 2 seconds on the YouTube clip, and was instantly sold on the idea of getting it one day

You know man I like a traditional flat video game screen but the nexgen screens are like

curved, so that your head doesn't turn back and forth and your peripheral vision enables you to see more, cool af

BUT when I saw HALF LIFE ALYX and HOW COOL the preview was for literally 2 SECONDS

I was like... I AM GETTING THIS. And I'm gonna work for it. People are like "ask people for the money to get it, that's too cool" and I'm like "nah I'm like don't give me the money I want that shit to be MINE and I'll be proud of owning it" LOL !!!!

Amidst a 30% unemployment surge in US :| ffs

at least I'm getting my COVID MONEY if congress approves. I already said if we get covid payout I'm buying it but it won't be enough $; I need a new vid card apparently BRB CRY

ttytt I would prefer this over a VR head set

Oh god...

if I was a millionaire I'd have fuckin the biggest sickest pc monitor

in a room where every wall is head to toe and floor/bulletproofglass covered monitors

and I'd have a different movie/news stream/porn on each one, so that anyone could get visually tripped out/lost observing ... reality ... etc ... nature recordings, music for hours. It would be, so cool.

But I like one PC monitor too that isn't too bad

You can buy Oculus under 100$. I think even for non-gamers, Half-Life's a title that draws you to it. When Valve decides to release a Half-Life title you have to understand that they risk a lot. This title paved the future for current games. They have to know what they're doing. And so, when they release another ''Half-Life'' title they understand. This game's perfection in one word. That's what I mean by risks. With Alyx, they recreated VR, what we can do with it. VR's the future. I am gonna buy it today.

CH, I used to work as a computer salesman, I would never buy ANYTHING Alienware, it’s just a rebranded Dell product, like buying a Lexus, you’re really just buying a prettier Toyota. Always overpriced.

I’m a big fan of MSI but their monitors seem to be hit or miss. ASUS makes some good stuff though. Samsung monitors are generally the highest standard imo.
 
I'm waiting to buy a new GPU then I'm getting it. I heard there is mod out that makes it a non-VR game if you just want to purchase it and play without the whole shenanigans. I'm assuming you'll need at least a 1060Ti+ for a decent 1080p experience.

Do you mean 1080Ti? I don't think they ever made a 1060Ti.
 
I have my Doom Eternal right now, so dont care much about VR exclusives no matter how good they are.

I did google it, never saw that. But get some sleep man! That's not healthy!

Edit: further googling, found no Ti model for the 1060; they do have 3GB and 6GB models, so I guess you could say the 1060 6GB is the equivalent of a Ti model for that generation and card. Purely semantics though. No worries.

Anyways, those are old cards now. We're on to the RTX 2000 series now. Wish I could afford me an RTX 2070 or something but I don't game enough to justify it.
 
Whoops meant to put 1080Ti.

I'm skeptical about a 1060 providing adequate performance in VR. The 3gb version definitely wouldn't be enough without sacrificing on some settings. I'm sure an OC 6gb version might do alright. If you want to quote Nvidia then my card is a capable 4K card according to them yet it can achieve roughly 25-40FPS at 4K in some games.
