The Death and Return of Superman

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Superman!

I'm not into too many animations or cartoons but this one hits home for me. I bought the comic back in the 90s waiting for the doors to open in the comic book store.

I tried watching on several different drugs and surprisingly found that I like watching it best sober.

7.5

Thomas Crown Affair -1968-

Good, not great. Classic heist film. I think I mostly liked it because I have a crush on Faye Dunaway, and I like all things 1960s. Worth one watch, probably not two.

6.5/10

Requiem for a Dream

This movie is WAY overrated. In fact, I barely got anything from it. Their pupils dilate instead of constrict when they shoot heroin even FFS. Seemed like a boring anti-drug ad for an hour forty. Not much of it was realistic, but the scene where Jennifer Connelly debased herself towards the end was probably my favorite part just because I got a sexual kick from it... Anyways, as a druggie, and a film fan, I'd say this movie isn't even worth a watch unless you're real bored or just curious about just how overrated it is as a film. Only other Aranofsky film I've seen was Black Swan, which is a masterpiece; Requiem is a disaster.

If I were to say Black Swan was an 8.5/10, I'd give Requiem a 4.5/10.

Give this one a skip.

The Irishman. Not cool, but not a bad movie 6/10. Quite suitable for evening viewing.
I’d agree with that rating. The Irishman’s best part was the last thirty minutes as we see the regret and harm Franks life has caused him, old age and drudgery overtaking him. The rest of the film was about as bad as Scorcese has been in decades, and the age reversal CGI was GOD awful.

I’ve watched most of his earlier films recently and those were pretty bad (aside from Taxi Driver)... the Irishman was worse. It bored me and took me three sessions to fully watch.

In fact, the last thirty minutes are the only saving grace that puts it up to a 6/10. Basing the rating on the rest of the film alone would easily drop it to a 4 or maybe 5 out of 10 IMO.

Silent night, deadly night. Basic rundown, NAUGHTY, PUNISH, GARBAGE DAY. 4/5 kooky horror.

I just...I can't even...I..
How much can't could a white girl can't if a white girl couldn't can't EVEN

The pupil dilation DOES weirdly happen though. I've seen people both in real life and on Intervention get really dilated pupils on heroin. I have no idea how it does this to some people but it does. Opiates don't really change my pupils at all (very slightly constricted if I take a lot) but when I'm in opioid withdrawal my pupils get FUCKING MASSIVE. Like so big you can't see any iris.

Requiem...is an amazing movie, though! Much better than friggin Black Swan! lol.

Part of the reason I love it though is because I was started on opioids while I was in hospital (to be fair to them I was in real agony) and then IV'd me morphine every 4 hours for three months and Lorazepam 3 x day for 3 months, so I came out addicted. I later saw a shady doctor while I had an eating disorder and was prescribed amphetamine for weight loss (even though I was 5'6 and 130 to BEGIN with) plus a barbiturate to knock me out at night.
So I really felt a connection to the mother because I also basically ended up emaciated and psychotic because I took what I was prescribed without knowing how bad or addictive it was.

And I think Black Swan was a much more intricate and accurate portrayal of how we view women in society. And I don't have any connection to being strung out like that. Requiem for a Dream was just a boring film, I'm sorry. I didn't identify with it at all, and it was cheesy almost. Like an anti-drug advert.

Meh, we all have different opinions. 's what makes us interesting.

i fear there are no bad or good movies. only the order in which we see them.

Marriage Story

terrible movie. grating characters talking about divorce.

One could make that argument. I often find I favor films that don’t receive high box office numbers. I think one of my favorite films of all time is Adventureland and it did awful at the box office and most people don’t care for it, but I identified with the main character so strongly that I felt a deep connection to the plot.

So I guess personal engagement is a large factor in “good” or “bad” films. More and more often I find I disagree with critic reviews. Even more so with crowd reviews.

I literally cannot fathom how Requiem for a Dream has an 8.3 rating on IMDb but something like Adventureland is down in the 5s. When I consider the latter to be an amazing coming of age film and a timeless exploration of that aimless feeling many experience post college, and the former a cheesy film dreamed up by Nancy Reagan.

I guess it doesn’t help that Jared Leto is in it. He’s an awful actor and I might have liked the film slightly better had he not been in it. The plot was still cheesy and cliche though I don’t think anything could have saved it for me.

Black Swan

I see it in a completely different way now. A ballerina became completely consumed by her role. A dark force slowly possessed her as the film went along until the possession was complete. It was her alter ego that wanted to take over her entire life. It was sad actually. Many celebrities are struggling with that in real life.

I didn't remember seeing that lesbian scene before with Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. That was really hot. Wow.

I thought he was okay in RFAD but to be honest everyone (acting-wise) was so completely outshone by Ellen Burstyn they could have done some serious oscar-winning acting and still came across underwhelming.

Oh, hon knee. There are most definitely bad movies (Tyler Perry comes to mind) and I have seen some amazing one's too.

I avoid Tyler Perry shows/movies like the plague. He should really be ashamed of himself for contributing to the dumbing down of people. He's making tons of money off of promoting ignorance. That's the easy way out instead of giving people something intelligent to consume.

Agreed. After watching the Christmas "comedy/horror" thing he did I felt like maybe Paris Hilton was actually a rocket scientist.
