Has anyone read /watched videos much on this? Being laid up a bit lately, I've been binge watching videos on it and fuck me.... Mind blown.

Bear in mind Elon Musk thinks there's only a one in billions chance that this universe ISN'T a computer simulation.... and he's pretty clever.

Thoughts?

I guess it hinges on whether you believe in a soul or not. Something intangible and unique that cant be replicated/created on a computer, ie: artificial intelligence.

I'm agnostic so pretty much on the fence. But If there is nothing special about consciousness and we are just biological computers then simulation theory makes sense for sure. Logically and statistically we would most likely be in one. Which is a crazy thought.

But if all our senses are telling us our reality is real (even if really it's not) then perhaps it doesnt matter? We will never know the truth. This is our world/reality so it's real to us? This reminds me of the 'brain in a vat', philosophy thought experiment.

If we are in a simulation let's just hope nobody in the real world trips over the power cable ;)

Yes, I've watched a lot of stuff regarding this and many renowned theoretical physicists support it. It was also something our antipodean friend Consumer used to bang on about due to his DMT experiences.

I must admid its a very compelling hypothesis as it has the potential to explain all unexplained phenomena.

Ghosts? Glitches in the code.

UFOs? Arrival of new players.

God's? Fuckin mods.. =D

However, a simulation needs a programmer. This sits uncomfortably with me because it allows the existence of a creator.

The very last thing I'm prepared to do is to admit that all those twats in funny hats over the centuries might actually have a point...

Yeah but the programmer might just be some alien nerd. I don't think the religious folk would be too impressed with that.

Actually it doesn't...

Go to 6:00

I'll have a look at that when I'm a bit less smashed mate, but are you telling me that the geeks have found out how to explain that a creator for the simulation is not necessary?

So why couldn't they do that with God in the first place? ?

The way things are going, I predict that the Grand Unified Theory will turn out to be nothing more than "Look, anything can fuckin happen. Alright?"

Yeah, my brain is mashed atm too..

Held off from any painkillers all day but the pain in my ankle is fucking intense mate..

Hobbled down to the local Pakistani gentlemans emporium for some bread, milk and Marlboros and he took pity on me and asked (ordered) one of his 500 odd kids to carry my shopping home for me haha!!

120mg Zomorph and 300mg pregab and trying to get my head around the history of the double slit experiment and quantum entanglement...

I'm going to bed soon...

Heh, there's only one double slit experiment I'm interested in, and it's got fuck all to do with photons ?

Though a little quantum entanglement wouldn't go amiss... ?

Hillary putnam proved that this is wrong, I got a book called philosophy in 30 seconds with lots of concepts, one of them was the brain in the vat, i don't remember putnams logic/demonstration but I know that he did

I was about to chime in, but I'm far too tired and [excuses] so I'll check back in here at a later time.
Surprised to see such a thread here to be honest, I thought you were all brain-fudged retards =D~<3

After heavy explorations of reality using DMT on the peak of acid trips. Reality is infinite impossible to comphrend unless you directly experince it. It also within a complete void of nothingness. But nothingness is also infinity. No explantion why its just this way consciousness is immortal blank nothing state can't not truly exist. All i say is hit DMT on a heavy acid trip to get more answers as DMT alone is hard to bring anything back but the acid gives it new feeling allowing you to retain more of the secrets of existence. All animals and life forms will experince that heavy dmt blast that will flood your brain on death depending on your karma you will ever have a good trip or a bad trip then reincarnted to any possible dimension or astral plane. It could be called a simulation in the fact that the ultimate source of consciouness is what dreamed up this entire world

.... Nice reading again :) Philosophy is, or was, rather scarce here (but I've likely missed a shit load of stuff whilst AWOL) and I'm glad it's not been moved to the far too serious "Philosophy & Spirituality" sub-forum ?

I go by the theory .... well, belief really, that you attain this body to learn. With all 5 senses and philosophical and theological thought.

CONSCIOUSNESS! And knowing that it is eternal - be it reincarnation if said knowledge has not been attained or passing on as a point of pure consciousness to roam the Universe... other dimensions.... possibly meet the fucking messed up sociopath who created this whole thing we call existence?
I'm going with becoming pure consciousness myself, and I hope to meet you all out there some day ?~❤

i hate to break it to you trip sitter but what you experience on acid trips isn't considered the benchmark for what reality is.

regarding whether the universe is a simulation, it depends on something to do with the church turing thesis, which roughly states that all physical systems are computable. so its the hypothesis that we can use a computer to simulate physical systems. as computable is a mathematical concept and physical systems are, funnily enough, a physical concept, we can't even in principal prove or disprove this thesis. if there are physical systems that are not computable, then we are not a simulation in the sense that we use the word simulation.

there are physical systems that are undecidable. that is related to computability but my drug addled brain doesn't remember the details.
