I recently got prescribed 10mg 3 times a day propanolol for anxiety. If i take all 900mg at once can I overdose? Also can you feel any type of high using propanolol?

I really hope this is hypothetical. You can overdose on water, if your body decides you've had to much. You can experience severe Bradycardia which is dangerous, so yes.

There is no real noticeable Psychological effect, but peripheral effects of anxiety are diminished greatly. It is often prescribed for situational/performance anxiety!!

Take anywhere near that big dose and it can stop your heart. Propranolol can work as a sui generis cure for stage fright, which I would not call high in itself. If one wants euphoria from beta blockers without combining them with euphoriants, take it from prisoners who eat supratherapeutic (but not massive) doses of clonidine as an opioid replacement. Which is why half the blood pressure dose is used in chronic pain control for burning pain and larger doses are used to reduce withdrawal symptoms.

Clonidine and propranolol have different specific mechanisms of action and have the opposite effect when combined with one another, including such side effects as stroke of apoplexy.

Why would you want to take 900mg of propanolol? It's MAINLY used to treat high blood pressure, angina, and cardiac arrhythmia's. Are you trying to overdose?

I'm aware you can overdose on anything, I guess I should've worded it differently - can you die from that amount?

The oral LD50 of propranolol in rats is in excess of 1 per cent of their body weight and apparently beyond the calibration range of the experiment in question, and 900 mg is about three times the maximum daily dose used in humans for hypertension, so, caeteris paribus, probably not but there is the issue of interactions, allergies, quirks in metabolism. then there is the potential of doing permanent organic damage of some sort . . .. the behavioural effects start below the anti-hypertensive dose, so why on earth is someone going to eat 90 capsules of it? That's enough to make a Tyrannosaurus Rex speak like Tulsi Gabbard in public and bring down the pressure in a fire hose.

I honestly don’t know, but you know that is not a rational dose and should steer you clear I hope. If you want a large dose, get the bedranol 80-160mg SR or generics and take it safely.

Just wanted to know if it has the capabilities if I ever did want to choose that route :)

Well now I see that is your aim, this is not the way to go about any problems that are making you feel this way. Easier said than done I know. Please seek someone out to talk about it I urge you. If you wanna talk please feel free to DM me!!

basedgoddess I'm going to have to close this thread as your question is more about whether you can kill yourself with your medication, which is not what we're here for.

However, we do have three recovery support forums further down the front page, which you might find helpful to read the various support threads or post in regarding your state of mind. Or else, as has been mentioned by others, try to seek out some external support services if you feel like you're going to act on any suicidal thoughts.

Good luck and take care,
CFC
