That weird wizard / shamen guy with the fucked up eyes really creeps me out looks like he went on a heavy flakka session & lost the plot to me.
 
Not read right through the thread, but I'd be surprised if someone hasn't mentioned Black Mirror.

Charlie Brooker's writing truly is genius. Brilliant TV show... it's like a glimpse into the not too far distant future and the problems with how technology, although fantastic, has a potential dark-side as we become more reliant on it.

EDIT: I just went back one or two posts and, yes, it was mentioned.
 
Tonight on Film4 they have two films by David Lynch, the first is on at 11.20pm & is called "Blue Velvet" which I have never seen but heard great things about & everyone keeps telling me to check it out as I will love it.
The 2nd is also a Lynch film & right on after Blue Velvet has finished and is "The Straight Story" which I have also not seen before but heard about it & have looked into the guy is was based on as his story blew my mind.
"An old man embarks on a bizarre cross-country journey to visit his estranged brother, hoping to heal the rift between them before it is too late. Though his eyesight leaves much to be desired, he carries on regardless - choosing a motorised lawnmower as his form of transport."

Blue Velvet looks interesting, not really a fan of the genre but Dennis Hopper is such a strong actor I cant see anything with him in being bad

Yeah Blue Velvet is one of those films that keeps coming up on my radar for years but I have never seen it & everyone I like keeps telling me to check it out.
I like to think I know good films & each day I check the Film4 listings for the evening as they sometimes have hidden gems on there (I caught the Mexican film called Heli on there a few days ago & that film will never leave my mind, it blew me away & that is so rare these days)

Hands down Wubb if you are a movie fan check "Heli" out, the thing about it apart from being gritty & I would even say shocking is it is all based on truth, all the scenes you see have been taken from reports in the Mexican media about what has actually happened to people & their pets (the scene with the dog actually made me think of turning the movie off, I know it isn't real but it hit a nerve with me & I then understood why people walked out of the showing at the sundance film festival. If you are a fan of stuff by Gasper Noe (Irreversible) you will love Heli. The film made such an impact upon me I am buying it on DVD.

 
Drawing upon real-life accounts of everyday atrocities, Escalante (director of the similarly controversial Sangre and Los Bastardos) and co-writer Gabriel Reyes conspire to drag Heli and his family through an ordeal that is apparently far from uncommon. Told that they will "get to know God in the land of the damned", the central characters find themselves at the mercy of affectless thugs whose relationship with the law is deliberately obtuse. Are the armed police who arrive at Heli's home gangsters in disguise, crooks dressed as cops? Are they rogue officials, in league with the drug lords? Or are they in fact bona fide law enforcement officials, randomly terrorising the community whom they are supposed to protect?

What gives Heli its edge is the stark juxtaposition of almost surreal horror and tangible domesticity, a combination that lies at the dark heart of Escalante's vision. Scenes of Heli's home-life are convincingly etched, with non-professional performers (only the actor playing his father has previous screen experience) lending an air of relaxed naturalism.
Later, this domesticity will become the film's most disturbing element, as home-grown torture is enacted in the presence of children, their attention divided between the flickering images on the TV screen and the real-life beating of a man in whose violation and humiliation they are invited/forced to participate. While the genital mutilation of one of the characters has become Heli's notorious talking point, the digital effects involved in this shot are, if anything, a distraction from the greater horror of a world in which childhood itself appears to have been incinerated.

I'm a big fan of Noe and I've made the effort to see a lot of his work on a big screen. I'll give ^that a watch and get back to you. will look around for a version to stream online

Also, I had a relationship which started over a copy of Blue Velvet. I was working at a video shop and he plonked a 2nd hand ex rental copy of Blue Velvet on the counter to buy and it was love from there on! We got to see it on big screen a number of times too.

You'll probably love some of Lynch's earlier work and shorts, Zop.
The Grandma one (cant remember the full title) ... and Eraserhead particularly.

Yeah tonight should be a good one, was planning on dropping some acid later so hopefully blue velvet is as humorous as it seems or I might be traumatised, this night may end with me only having one ear, its been a tough one lol I cant say I've seen Withnail & I or even heard of it but it looks good, so I just brought it off amazon, 7 fooking days to dispatch!!

Whoaaa Heli looks like one heavy film, I think I'll have to give that one a watch when I'm not with misses, you mentioned the children in the scene where mateys getting tortured, This is something what crosses my mind a lot with child actors.
While I understand most of these kids are extremely intelligent and there's professionally trained actors (within reason being children) and there's a whole lot of Hollywood magic involved but how do they manage to not get psychologically damaged by some of the things there asked to do ?
My example being relatively tame is the Exorcist, as a young'un that film scared the life out of me, I was about 6 or 7, Now how did the director explain to the child (linda blair) the scene where's she's using the crucifix to masturbate ? if anyone else apart from a movie director asked that of her they would (rightly so) be thrown in jail.

I like to think I am quite a film buff, I have tastes that sadly go over the head of most folks (El Topo & The Holy Mountain both by a guy called Alejandro Jodorowsky are two films I would go back into a burning building to rescue. My ex turned me into his work some years back & said I was the only guy she had been with that was worthy of watching them with her & would understand them, since then I have collcted all the works I can get by Jodorowsky)



Another film that hit me like a brick to the face was called "Enter The Void" Shit I just noticed that is also by Noe!!!!!

I've never seen Blue Velvet but what you said above has rang alarm bells in my head, anyone that bonds over a film is good by me, thanks for the reply. That post you did has sealed the deal for me.

Trust me though on Heli, it seems we have very close taste in films, Heli will stay with you for years to come & it is all based on truth & acts that have actually happened, the dog killing scene made me want to turn the film off but I stuci with it, the film is a visual assault I will tell you right now. I had a quick look on Amazon & you can get it for 4 quid, roll on giro day I say. If you get a copy & don't like it I will personally give you the cash back myself.

Heres a good one for you mate its a film called Pi, The story is about a mathematician and the obsession with mathematical regularity contrasts two seemingly irreconcilable entities (stolen from wiki) I first found out about this film because the main character has cluster headaches, don't worry its not and hour and a half of someone having a headache, I think you'll love this one

Wubb/Zop (EDIT: or anyone else for that matter)... I subscribe to the BFI Channel on Amazon prime. It's really really good and there's loads of great world cinema on there

take a look for me if you get the chance and see if there's anything you recommend for me.

I'm gonna watch Nosferatu tomorrow I thinik. But I'm out of TV options atm and I could do with a list of movies to watch

I checked on Amazon for the films I have in my subscription, and the documentary 'The Jodorowsky Constellation' came up... I think it may be available on pootube in parts. not sure.

BUT

In the first 30mins, I'm left in disbelief that I'm drawn to his outlook so much that it gave me a complete new understanding of myself regarding a certain concept I've had trouble understanding and relating to ... it's something that has been bothering me for a long time and is a regular thing that all my favourite directors, writers and musicians have always referenced but I've not completely related to and therefore is something I've considered a weakness of mine for not being able to reproduce it in myself or experience myself ... but listening to him explaining some things has made me realise that it's actually not a weakness but a huge strength of mine ... and realising such will be of major benefit to me when looking towards future things.

I'm talking about really fundamental stuff too. (I'm not a fan of the word 'epiphany' - dunno why but I find it annoying) ... but the realisation I speak of is along those lines .... So thanks loads and loads for recommending him. As soon as he started detailing his outlook I immediately resonated with what he spoke about.

Much Love to you for bringing him to my attention Mister. I'm not really very good at expressing this kind of thing so it may come through as me being pretentious er summat ... but it's not that. It's really genuine and very real for me. And will help me no-end in the future

I'll make an effort to watch his filmography now. Cheers loads x

Welcome to the cult of Jodorowsky Teen Age Riot :)

His last film called Dance of Reality was on Film 4 a few months back, well worth watching as it is quite something to say the least & it is shot using modern cameras etc, it really is someone doing a dance over OUR reality.

 
Naked and Afraid tonight on Dmax at 9pm.

It's what it says on the tin, they take two people (always a man & woman) & drop them off on a remote island with NOTHING & they have to survive for 21 days & manage to get to a predetermined point that is always out in the middle of the sea to be taken off the island. They always have these so called "survival experts" on the show & it always falls apart for them (what a shock huh) & they really do become afraid (ususally because they are close to freezing to death or near drowning in the sea when their raft falls apart)

I swear to God the people that made this show couldn't have made anything better, the people at the start are always trying to brag about how much of an epert in survival they are to the other, it all soon falls apart when they get eaten by sand files, cant get water etc etc..........I just sit at home on my soft sofa in nice heat laughing at these fools.
 
Most amazing film on Film4 last night, should be able to watch on catch up.

Movie called "Tangerine" shot on a I-phone, won several awards at Sundance & it is filmed most amazing.

 
Caught my first episode of Rebel Road yesterday on Quest, I for one am obsessed with the Rat Rod scene & when I see one of those styles cars that is what I call a proper rat rod my heart skips a beat, to me a proper chopped Ford Model A body made out of scrap looks better than any Ferrari etc.

This was one that was made on the show yesterday, yeah it is a rat bus I guess but when you see it coming down the road, 900bhp at the rear wheels & has a V10 that sounds like the gates of hell being kicked open & can smoke the back wheels my heart skipped a beat & I made a mess in my boxers.

If anyone else loves Rat Rods like I do check this show, it is pure car porn.
