Its taken me ages to finally start an account, hate to think how many years I've relied on info found here for vital harm reduction and to get useful advice. Never saw the need to post before now though. I remember learning to acetone wash cola to get rid of impurities here once too (worked a treat).

I am an off and on opiate user and various other drug user over about 20 years. Pretty happy with where I am at these days though.

Interestingly enough I returned a few days back from my 5th trip to Asia in the last year and was talking to a mutual acquaintence about how I have travelled so much and to countries with such tough drug laws for over a decade, all while on methadone maintenance therapy.

All along they had been assuming travel of ANY kind was impossible, let alone exotic places like China, Myanmar, Borneo and Cambodia.

It got me thinkimg maybe similar mindsets (unjustified) is holding back alot of people from seeing this amazing planet. Feel free to PM me,

Hey high traveller, welcome to Bluelight :)

Glad you decided to join up. I think a lot of people are held back by mindsets. In fact, I'd say that almost everyone is in some way. How come you like SE Asia so much then?

Totally alien culture, better food, happier people, so so much rich and ancient history to explore. SE Asia lumped is almost like Nth and Sth America lumped together, so much variety

Yeah absolutely. I didn't intend to lump 1/3 of the world's pop into a single category like they're all the same :) Do you have any particularly memorable/favourite places there?

No, I know you weren't its just SE Asia now to when I first went to Bali in 1988, might as well be a different planet. So affordable too.

Hmmmm, Japan though I dont get there much.

Laos 4 times
Cambodia 5 and
Thailand 16

So....yeah, thats also my scale on best food

Haha. I love Thai food as well.... sooo good :)

Sounds like you have a great time traveling. I admire it :)

Its just the making the decision people find hard not the actual travel or the financial side. Its like living in a bubble life without seeing other cultures, you think?

I think it's hard to shift habits into a new perspective.

Most of us live such boring, mundane, tightly controlled lives. We know we can or could do all kinds of things, that it is technically possible to do the things we really want, but for some unknown reason, our minds hold us within that tight little experience bubble and we hold ourselves back. Which is truly bizarre because anyone one of us could die tomorrow. So what are we waiting for?

And yet here I am, waiting to do things I know I could and would like to do right now, but holding myself back... ;)

Getting worried I'll bum you out more, but my only regret is a 12 year relationship, corporate career which amounted to nothing and was time I could have spent travel to every mid sized city in China or finally getting down to Patagonia, or back to Egypt.

Theres never enough time, you cannot start late for reasons that aren't reasons but excuses, most backpackers feel that way that I know these days. The advanatge of being from the west, is 6 months home get a job and you can travel at a reasonable standard these days in Asia the rest of the year.

Couldn't encourage you more, or anyone.
