Big games this week. Redskins/Cowboys (thurs), Vikings/Falcons (early game), Panthers/Saints (late game), Eagles/Seahawks (night game).

^ for sure.

looking forward to the pats vs. bills. the bills want to keep their playoff hopes alive and they have to play the pats twice in the next 5 weeks.

kc looks like they're imploding - looks like the chargers charge may see them win the division and the ravens may squeak in too.

so much football still to come :)

That sux, I actually like the lions and I wish they would do well.

Denvers qb situation is grim. I think I heard kirk cousins will be on the market for next year? Maybe even Eli manning... Would be ironic if both manning went to Denver their last couple years before retirement.

Fuck the raiders.

i like detroit too. so much talent on that team and yet they seem to struggle.

Fuck the raiders.
lol.

i think the raiders will finish 8-8 - a very disappointing season. broncos end up 5-11 at the foot of the table. unless chiefs can get their shit together, chargers win the west and play jax (who beat them once already) in round 1.

i heard maybe Eli would go to the Jets. But Denver makes a lot of sense.

Yeah cowboys offense is getting bailed out by their defense and special teams. And Washington playing like shit, that helps too.

Packers think Rodgers will be back week 15...

*looks at schedule*

...fantastic.

what's your point?

Well, my first point was white players get away with shit that black players would never get away with. The larger point extends to society in general, not just football. Recent events in both the US and NFL have caused this injustice to be constantly in the front of my mind. And I think it’s sickening. The other point was that the media is largely downplaying the severity of what occurred. The most damning on-air commentary I’ve heard so far came from Rodney Harrison on NBC. He opened by making it clear that Gronk is not a dirty player, but also said if that happened on the street Gronk would be going to jail.

Unfortunately, we all know that is far from a guarantee given the fact that white cops murder black people in plain sight every other day and are rewarded with what amounts to a paid vacation...but that is neither here nor there.

ESPN also seems to be fairly underwhelmed: http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...rob-gronkowski-dirty-play-cb-tredavious-white

How fucking entitled can a person be. He just purposely gave a defenseless guy brain damage and is still trying to justify it.

I’m not trying to take anything away from the Patriots as a football team. They are obviously very good at what they do. That goes without saying. And I know this will sound like sour grapes since I’m a Panthers fan and they just suffered an excruciating loss, but look at Cam. What do you think would be said or done to him if he did exactly what Brady did. Just look at a week or two ago when Cam had a minor spat with Rivera over a fourth down call which ended up just being a misunderstanding. It was nothing really, yet Cam got immediately reprimanded for it on the sideline and as a bonus got to hear about it for the next couple of days from everyone else.

But what Brady did was “just football” according to himself. Everybody laughs. Haha. Belichick disrespects the media every chance he gets. That’s just him being him. Endearing even. Everybody laughs. How cute. Cam makes one clumsy remark, out of immaturity and with no malice, he gets fucking crucified. Ends a press conference a few seconds early, it’s a headline the next day.

Let’s be real. What Gronk did couldn’t have been dirtier or more blatant. He should be suspended for the rest of the year and be grateful that’s all he got. But we all know that won’t happen. He might get one game just to save face and quell the Twitter outrage. Pathetic.

Sorry for the rant but I’m just tired of people not being held accountable.

As a fan of the Miami Hurricanes, I can agree with this sentiment. Much of the hatred that headed their way was due to mainstream America not liking the way black kids celebrated. While some of the celebration was no doubt over the top, much of what was said about it would today be recognized for the racist dog whistling it is. Prolific use of the word "thug."

Also, agree on the Cam Newton thing, although I think the overreaction was a result of something deeper and more subtle than race. While it is undoubtedly a good thing that society is correcting its many racial and gender imbalances, we appear to have lost all sense of nuance in the process. What Cam said was stupid, no doubt, but did it really deserve to be on the front page of the news cycle? Really?

Society in general is on a hunt for witch hunts right now. Cam says something stupid and he is automatically labeled a mysoginist. Louis C.K. masturbating inappropriately is automatically put at the same level as Harvey Weinstein being an overt sexual predator in a position of extreme power. I'm not in any way, shape, or form saying these things are justifiable, but let the punishment fit the crime. Degrees matter, and not all wrongs are equally wrong.
