Ohio H harm reduction thread

there have been 48 ODs in Columbus since yesterday, and almost as much in Cincinnati the other day. we need harm reduction here now more than ever

I don't know how many this thread will conjure, but if someone posts a description of bunk stuff and saves at least one other person, it's been worth it IMO

here the "hood" dealers are trying to supplant all the Mexicans that have been here slangin' tar since a decade. and with them we have seen powder, and with that we have seen the ODs as of late

a Cincinnati DR said that she feels as if Ohio is being treated as a "test tube" of sorts? a place for them to try out their shit? I obviously don't know about that, I have my suspicions on who/what is implanting this carfent in the local shit, but I'll save that for another day

so anybody got anything for me?

It's a tough question. I love Cincinnati, it's the most underrated city in America. It's really hard to analyze illegal markets because they're underground by nature. Maybe this happened because Cincinnati is a more "isolated" market, being somewhat far from major port cities? It's possible that whoever the big regional suppliers are couldn't get real heroin at a good enough price due to the distance issue, so they wanted to try something else. They probably released a big test batch of carfentanyl but since they're not pharmacologists, they fucked up the cutting ratio.

Other regions have more established supply chains for heroin so they weren't forced into this situation.

A while back, I remember reading that US Customs at CVG intercepted a brick of a fentanyl analogue. Not sure if that's related or not.

carfentanil seems to only be in the west virginia, ohio section of things. Has not popped up in baltimore. The idea of that stuff scares the shit out of me... It is used on fucking elephants. It is way too strong for us... Shit, the fentanyl-laced dope is ridiculously strong...

still can't wrap my mind around the carfentanil thing but I guess economically speaking with the appropriate precursors it is not that much more expensive to make than other fentanyls and thus strictly from a profit making point of view I guess this makes sense but how are you going to make profits with your customers dropping like flies. carfentail literally requires special protective equipment to handle. I really wonder how the people who are producing this carfentadope are going about doing it and at what level of sophistication; obviously not complete idiots but also obviously causing people to drop dead, but another factor in that is that these fentanyls tend not to be very euphoric relative to dope relative to the amount of respiratory depression so you're dead before you're as high as you think you'd be OK getting if you were shooting actual dope. fucking scary.

It has been some time since anyone has posted in this thread but sending love out to those in this struggle. things are different in OH than the rest of the nation, be safe, have heard of it making its way into weed, might be a good time to reach out to doctor for help. It's all we have heard about for the past 2 years so seems normal but it's not - Too many sirens, too many handsome, beautiful, once charismatic people being lost in this battle.

I grew up in the Cleveland area-- have had a lot of friends involved with dope there and have seen a lot of harm come out of it. The officials there are not responding to the deaths properly, and it's both infuriating and heartbreaking to watch their ineffective approach of fear, shame, and punishment. I think I know which article you're talking about in regard to the opioid-laced weed. Good news-- it was bogus. Just a brilliant example of how hysterical folks in OH are about opioids. Not saying it isn't bad (god knows it is there) but the reporting is seriously lending to more fear than facts.

I'm not completely sure I agree. I really can't stand the media at all, but, there is a little truth to the hysteria.
When I was younger there drugs I did that were different than what I thought the were & I rode the high out even though it was not what I was expecting.
18 & 19 year olds are dropping dead upon trying something for the 1st time. People think these kids have a death wish or are stupid. Many of us experimented but this stuff is on a whole new level.
So many young 18 & 19 year old KIDS we have lost to this stuff. They had their entire lives ahead of them. Yes I agree - so heartbreaking.
All we hear are sirens all of the time.

This could be why so many people are hysterical. Click the link & check out the # of deaths - we all know someone or many of these people and loved them & would do anything to help them. This data to me supports that it isn't just hysteria, it is a real issue. They need to figure out a way to detox quicker & get people in when they make the choice to walk away. That is the biggest problem.
