2017 Trump Presidency Thread

I get that but would you really take Trump for 4 more years after these first ones. I mean, it's not only about him making things gone wrong, but don't you find all of this a bit tiring. Dealing with the lie of the day, who his fooling or insulting the next one. Besides, I don't think it would be good for the country.

Pence would not be reelected if Trump can't make it to the second term. The stressful situations that got a lot of people involved - directly or indirectly by Trump tend to increase. He's not going to change.

most? that's a pretty bold, wide-ranging (and not to mention vague) claim. how would you substantiate this?
the same way I substantiate everything I talk about, just a gut feeling that usually turns out to be right? Idk

i totally respect the idea that you have formed a different opinion of trump based on what he says and does but it is hard to imagine how any reasonable, rational person could come to this conclusion based on his performance so far.

i heard it all the way through the campaign from core supporters - what a straight-shooter he is and how you always know what he's thinking. it's such unadulterated bullshit it's tragic. he's the most pants-on-fire lying politician and has personally ushered in the era of 'post truth'.

there's a lot of material so let's focus one one specific area to try to rationalize this. trump campaigned on being a washington outsider, not a politician. that's what we needed and he's the only guy that fits the bill, right? you said it yourself: "He isn't a career politician".

one of his main campaign claims, on the back of his novel independence was that he was going to "drain the swamp".

subotai, can you explain to me how, even in the context of just his his cabinet appointments, he hasn't done pretty much the exact opposite? how would you resolve your pre-election delight at his talk about draining the swamp with what he actually did? in what sense does this demonstrate that you knew where he stood on that central campaign promise?

alasdair

I said you know where he stands, not that he is a "straight shooter". You know he doesnt like foreigners, but he cant just come right out and say that.

A lot of the stuff that people bash Trump for doing is stuff that I dont really have a problem with tbh. Like being racist or disparaging women or banning Islamic people from entering the US.

None of it affects me

and thats pretty much all I have to say about politics. If it doesnt affect me, I dont care.

I don't follow the day-to-day wrongdoings of the President, but I also dont bitch about them every day either

so its a fair exchange IMO

So, as long as it doesn't bother you. Whatever. It just seems empty and egoistic until something actually hits you. Then, of course, you'll start to exist because you'll need something.

That's pretty much how I view Trump and his supporters, "I don't mind if he does this or that, provided that nothing reaches me". It's only fair provided that you live until without needs, or any sense of compassion.

Please no Pence. I'd rather Trump for 8 years than Pence for 1...

This has actually saved his career. Before Feb this year I followed this stuff. He was not going to make reelection in his home state. He showed a lot of incompetence with his platform. Amazingly he may be getting up to speed, but then, look at the comparison.

Before my media coma, I did think his hands were a bit dirty in the Flynn affair, though, and even #3 Ryan. Shit, as a current Fed employee (on seasonal leave for the next eight months) GS4, I think I'm in line.

except in this case, what he did was the exact opposite of what he said he would do...

I said you know where he stands...
unless it's one of the countless issues where he's said one thing and done another so you don't know where he stands...

a lot of trump supporters only care about themselves which is, in part, why he won. greed and selfishness drive a lot of votes.

This!

I can't really refute any of that. I don't vote, don't care about other people that might be different than me, and certainly don't get too caught up in politics.

I dont really like Trump as a person, but I can't really say I liked any politician as a person. Honestly, Trump is just the perfect representation of what I feel Washington has been for a long time now. A big joke

You should vote.

IMPEACHMENT IS COMING SOON!!!!!!!

Again, what crime did Trump commit? Where is the evidence? Is anyone aware of the background of Mueller or how corrupt he is? He deserves to be fired imo just like Comey did.

Again I hate to constantly revert back to Killary but comparisons and precedents are important. Hard evidence was found of her committing serious criminal violations and nothing happened to her. (Not to mention that the "intent" was obviously there and is irrelevant under the Espionage Act). But now we have people obsessed with the "investigations" into Trump. That is not how it works. A crime is committed then you investigate. With Trump the investigations are ongoing and they are still searching for a crime. This is the definition of a witch-hunt (something that Trump described accurately).

I've also noticed among the bickering that nobody has mentioned Trump cutting funding to terrorists (I mean "moderate rebels") in Syria. This is legitimately a Trump-bashing thread. Nobody will recognize the positive things he is doing. It's so glaringly obvious that you all just want him removed for irrational, hypocritical reasons. Politicians lie - the content, intent and gravity of the lies are what's important.
He lied about his inauguration numbers!!!
Wow who f**king cares?

He said hyperbolic things during the campaign!!!
OK wow, that is standard for politics. If you listened to the interview that Harris did with Scott Adams you'd understand more about Trump's methods. He even stated to the public "I am no angel but I am going to do what's best for the country" - and honestly compared to people like HRC he's a goddamn angel (yes oxymoron).

The only chaos here is what the media and his opponents are attempting to ferment. And most of his opponents should actually be directing their anger at the establishment politicians that refuse to allow him to enact any lasting, positive change. I am able to criticize Trump where he goes wrong, however it is disingenuous to ignore anything positive he has done or is trying to do.

Despite his missteps, Trump is not a failure yet

LiquidMethod: Thank you for that summary of Trump talking points, Mr. Sean Hannity.
At this point it is hysterical to listen to you regurgitate every bit of Trump propaganda.
This is the stuff that people like you think no one has heard. I've literally read all of this and it's just amazing to see it summarized here.
Enjoy watching Trump get torn apart no matter what he does, because "he dared to speak truth to power" or because he's an incompetent idiot with equally idiotic family members. Either way. :D

Just a reminder, if we impeach Trump, then we get Pence.

If Pence gets dragged down as well, then we get Paul Ryan.

It's crap all the way down.

until, 857 impeachments later, we finally turn things around with President Fieri and his open door policy with Flavortown

We get it. You're a white guy who doesn't care about politics. You are fine with Trump because like him you're a racist, sexist, shameless person who is uninterested in learning anything new. He has your dream life. Great.

You stumbled into Current Events and Politics. Why don't you head back to the Lounge or try Drug Culture? Or another forum? Or another website?

Great talk. :D

Why are these people coming out of the woodwork? Is there some white supremacy site getting them all lathered up?

It's fucking laughable how clueless you guys are about all this. Still.

Being a condescending wanker and talking to people you don't agree with (who happen to want to protect their country) and accusing them of being white supremacists, is not an effective method of argument. The silent majority still rules. People like you can try all you want to silence them. You will never win.

People want to preserve their way of life and protect their borders. Your time will never come. Ours will never end.

^ Shim has been around way before you stumbled in noob. Hes just as entitled to his opinion as you are yours.

Calm down will ya.

<3

No not you somedude.

Do you realize how spun I got myself this current session? I've determined this is really just a projection of the closed social forums at the other Drugs Forum. As usual I'm arguing with scripts and bots. It's the only way to group everyone together finally. And reddit is just one kid from 4chan, I knew that all along.

Anyway tell shimachu his entitled opinion of Fieri is a fucked one. I never want something called Donkey Sauce anywhere near my food.

Yes some opinions held by members here seem fucked but thats the interesting thing about social discussions. Not everyone agrees. Politics is hard to take personally but sharing ideas and opinions isnt about if someone is right or wrong.

Trump does seem to bring out the worst in people. I find him to be incredibly asinine and glad I don't have him as my countries spokesman. Turnbull is enough of a dickhead tbh.
