Yep, that's the only shot he's got. I wonder if Hillary's campaign is under estimating the value and reliability of an enthusiastic base. They've seemed way to satisfied lately with the "hold your nose" and "lesser of two evils" vote. It is those voters who will say they are voting for her if surveyed but might decide not to take time out of their schedule come election day. If enough people do that, a 3-5% defecit right now doesn't mean dick.
 
Essentially all trump needs to do is seen palatable these next two debates so he doesn't fire up arm chair liberals, and enough decide to stay home. I think he will be better off in a town hall type of setting, anyway. He really just needs to call out Hilary when he is given the opportunity. Also biased liberal moderators like Lester holt are something he needs to learn to contend with.
 
From my perspective, Trump's appeal has nothing to do with being "palatable" - nothing about the guy is any more palatable than that notorious final scene of John Waters' film Pink Flamingos, where Divine eats fresh dog shit off the sidewalk.

He's simply feeding off how alienated and disenfranchised the American working classes are.
No matter how stupid, rude, dishonest or vulgar he is, his rusted-on supporters don't seem to care. The debate itself was a farcical exercise in demonstrating how much of a bad joke the US Presidential campaign cycle has become.

Ultimately, i don't think i care about whether the slick ex-FLOTUS or the bloated gas bag wins the Presidency.
But the insipid Dems worry me less than the GOP - which is hardly a ringing endorsement.

Sad that the 2008 optimistic Obama "hope" campaign slogan has degenerated into this bleak battle of hopeless negativity.
It's always depressing to know that you're only supporting a candidate (on whichever side) that you dislike the least - something i'm all-too-familiar with in Australia, but we at least have the benefit of preferential voting, so when i don't put either of the major parties at the top of my ballot paper, if none of my preferred choices are elected, my preferences still flow on to whichever of the candidates (of the two major parties) i placed above the other.

The two-party system as it is at the moment seems to be really letting us down (at least in those of us in the US/UK/Australia where such a political system prevails. It's really depressing to watch - globalism has really done a number on everyone.

There are times when really i hate to say "I knew this was going to happen" (in regard to neo-liberal globalisation fucking everyone over - not Loudmouth Clownshoes being the GOP presidential candidate. That's a nightmare freakshow beyond any bad-trip prediction I could have made, even in jest).

Given the current state of world affairs, however, it's getting hard to be shocked by anything. And that is truly terrifying.

I cannot really disagree with you anywhere in that post, bc you are not wrong.
Essentially, the SCOTUS sets policy in America through legal precedent. This next president could appoint up to four justices. The first and second amendment are very much in jeopardy IMO. When the court leans conservative it gets very little done maintaining status quote. With it being majority liberal it will quickly, without a doubt, become an activist panel. Especially so with the grid lock we have in Washington currently. So that is the only reason I will vote trump.
 
He is smart for paying less in taxes. Nobody except the Hilary jock riders care about his tax return. He doesn't want to show it bc he probably took a loss last year and payed nothing in taxes as people in real state sometimes do. They would release that bit of info to the liberal media and idiots would take it at face value. Nobody looks to pay more in taxes as some sort of patriotic duty, that would be insane.
I still want to know how Hilary had nothing when they left the White House and now are worth hundreds of millions. Release the speeches to wallstreet at the very least. Her stock robotic response of "my father was a small business" was cracking me up the other night!!
30 years and what has she done? I know one thing for sure is her policies have incarcerated a bunch of minorities!

great, except that's not the issue. the issue is that he made the claim on live television then denied it an hour later.

but, i guess that trump thinks everybody else should pay for the military and infrastructure from which he benefits while he doesn't pay his fair share?

Hilary is a bigger liar and has done a lot to harm to this country in her vast 30 years in office. Cannot think of one thing she has done other than putting a ton of "super predators" behind bars :\
The energy is behind the trump base. I couldn't care less about our bet I just want America to win!! Though the one hundred bucks would be nice. I think I'd spend in on AR 15 MAGAzines or something else patriotic.
 
yet again, your only response is "hillary did something too".

hillary is getting an uptick from the first debate. the consensus is that she performed well and he did not. people are getting a chance to compare them side by side and his lack of presidential bearing can't be covered up in a live debate. he constantly interrupted her, bullied her and condescended to her and the moderator. people are seeing that, regardless of how disruptive he is and whether that is, in and of itself, a good thing, he's unfit for the job.

she's done plenty but, of course, if you don't want to listen then you won't hear...

she was instrumental in the success of efforts to have the diagnosis of "gulf war syndrome" taken seriously, helping thousands of veterans of the gulf war. (source)

hillary has done great work on behalf of veterans.

what's trump done for vets? oh i know, he's done nothing then actually lied about helping them.

how will you dismiss that?

Not only has he donated tremendous money to the vets, but he has also championed them. By calling out just how terrible the state of most VA hospitals are across the country. It is part of his platform and something he addresses daily. Hilary gives off the feeling that she despises them. After all it mainly is a bunch of white males, who could blame her.

Making a negative comment about VA hospitals is hardly "championing" veterans.

I agree, it is good, that he revealed, that the gov. spends a huge amount of tax payments for the military expansion. He won't make any decision himself anyways if he becomes president (Pence is the responsible instance), so who cares, whether he held back tax money as a business owner. Every rich-as-fuck person does that, unfortunately. The lobbyist's system is to blame. Plus Switzerland.

i'm sure you'll just dismiss these but that second to last one is interesting as his own campaign admits he lied about helping veterans.

and the last one is pretty illuminating - it's clear that he lied about donating to veterans and wanted to get credit for doing so when people thought he had donated. but he did nothing. for months and ultimately only got his checkbook out when he was backed into a corner about the original lie.
