Not in my experience. I was once coming back from Colorado with a quarter of marijuana. Got pulled over, went through the basic routine. The cop gave me shit because he knew where I was coming from, asking me if I had any drugs. I said no, then he asks if he could search the vehicle. Once again I say no, so then he says he's gonna get a K9 unit to check out my car. Which is bullshit. Keep in mind, I was being very respectful and proper, as I always am.
Then he told me he didn't deal with recreational quantities, and if I only had personal use he would just make me toss it. Seeing it as my best option, I told him what I had and he made me throw it to the side of the highway. It felt so wrong; got me jaded as fuck.
I honestly fucking hate cops. The job is not handled properly in the US, and they have too much power.
Can't win em all I guess. And hey, that beats the hell out of jail. I guess I've just been lucky. I'll give you an example.
I got pulled over not even 2 minutes after leaving a friends house. I had a warrant for an unpaid traffic violation. Lady cop comes up, "where you coming from?", "where ya going?", etc. standard stuff. Well when she asks for my insurance I pop my center counsel open with out even thinks and there an empty baggie, small blue one that you might get a gram of weed it, sitting right on top of my insurance card. It's a two compartment one and I had insurance card in top compartment because I never put anything else in there for this exact reason. The one time there's something incriminating in there I get pulled over. Anyway, she says nothing about it even though she was clearly trying to see what was in there because she focused her flashlight in that direction. She goes back to her car for a few and then another cop pulls up. She comes to my window and he lurking around behind the car looking inside like they often do. She gives me back my ID, tells me to pay my ticket ASAP, and then says
" I noticed a small bag with what looked like a white residue in you center compartment, anything in here you aren't supposed to have?".
"No, ma'am."
"Okay, well then do you might if I give it a quick search?"
" I'd prefer if you didn't."
"Alright Mr. Archer. Have a good night."
I'm on parole and honestly I don't know if I have the right to refuse until I'm off. I would into it but I have less than a month to go.
Anyways, I've had similar encounters where I wasn't on my Ps and Qs but still ended up driving away unsearched.
Oh and all that was in that bag was Crystals off same dank weed I had. So it probably wouldn't have been a big deal but you never know.
Space Yeah I won't deny I've been lucky but it gonna be different every time. It just so happens it has worked out in my favor the majority of the time. Also, I live in a major city so that might help sometimes. Annnddd last thing, I think I might start filming if I get pulled over in the future. Gotta keep these laws in check.
