Hi, I am currently doing a masters degree and am under immense pressure. Also my grandmother died and a friend committed suicide whilst I had a lot of assignments to do, the stress got so bad that I had a panic attack one night because my mind just could not relax from all the stress and pressure. I smoke weed occasionally, and my dealer said he has some Etizolam which is a benzo-style (theo?) drug with anti-anxiety effects. So I bought some and they really helped bring my stress levels down and enabled me to focus on my work, I have been taking around 2mg a day for 3 weeks through this stressful period but would now like to come off them. I have read terrifying stories about seizures etc when coming off etizolam, am I in danger? I have around eight 1mg tabs left and would rather not buy anymore for a long term taper but am more inclined to use these last 8 scarcely, go down to 0.5 in the morn then 0.5 in the eve but not sure if this is safe. I may be completely over thinking this but would rather be safe than end up having a seizure. I don't feel addicted to them, to be honest I dont see how people get high from them. They just push my anxiety aside so I can focus so any help/advice with this would be very much appreciated. I know I should not have resorted to a research chem like Etizolam for relief but what's done is done so yeah any help would be great. Cheers.

Yes you will experience some rebound anxiety. You have not been using too long, so it really won't be too bad. You have enough there to do a taper. Trust me, it will be good in the end being off them.

Thanks, I have propranolol for blood pressure but heard they can be good for physical symptoms of anxiety. So maybe this would help?

Also, would weed help with the withdrawals?

Weed will help. I would steer clear of alcohol. It will make you feel better for a short time, but will eventually exacerbate your symptoms.

Thanks, ok will just smoke a joint if I get anxious or start feeling strange. I was very naive about the danger and how damn addictive the benzo family is.

It is deceptive in how powerful it actually is. Most have no euphoria at all, but are incredibly habit/dependence forming...and the dependence happens very quickly at any dose.

I'm just so glad I realised this 3 weeks in, and not months down the line...scary.

The propranolol helps tremendously. I used it during benzo withdrawal and my withdrawal was very severe as I took them for 10 years. You should be fine with what you have - weed and propranolol. If you're worries, do a taper.

Just remember, if you start feeling disassociation, or tremors head to a hospital. Those are warning signs of seizures. Some folks are more prone to them, and it is a good idea not to risk having one.

I agree with manboychef - It also wouldn't be a bad idea to just go anyway and tell them what's going on - They may give you better medicine to help with prevention of seizures.
Benzo withdrawals can be nasty, but your usage isn't that long so you should be okay for the most part - Etiz also has a fairly short half life too.
