On that matter I would imagine age to be important, bringing up anti-hypertensives is less alarming if the patient is mid-fifties as opposed to twenties...

That's likely to get me HRT, not clonadine ! No, it's for all of 3 days, I've got the other comfort stuff. Just wait it out.
I 've been told magnesium helps but considering it gives some people the runs, maybe not a great idea. I have loperamide so that 's sorted.

Ha! That would be unfortunate....go in expecting clonidine and come out with estrogen...
Pregabalin and diazepam help a lot. So does lope but only because of it's opiate action. For me that just prolonged things.
Last year I CT'd off 180mg methadone, 600mg pregabalin and 10mg diazepam per day all at once and clonidine was my only comfort med....id be lying if I said it made a huge difference coming off all that though . .

Estrogen therapy is linked to breast cancer isnt it?
When I was hammering a gram or more of testosterone a week I sometimes took arimadex or tamoxifen to keep estrogen at bay. Aromatisation is not a bodybuilders best freind

Various applications for oestrogen therapy exist, its role in gender reassignment is perhaps the most appropriate instance though....

Ha! Yeah I did a lot of running up and down the town hall steps in a grey hoodie with my hands bandaged and a lot of air punching going on.... (In truth I lay in bed and wimpered like a girl for the two weeks I took off work then grit my teeth and got on with it... I still feel ill thinking about those two weeks. If you could force someone through that as a form of torture they tell you what ever you wanted to know....forget waterboarding..

You bet there's a link with breast cancer.-I was diagnosed with 2 thankfully small tumor,s, hormone receptor positive, genetic score of 16 and 17 last fall. Small, early and surgery was limited-I also did 6 weeks of radiation. But HRT stopped the minute I knew I needed a biopsy. So I have a bottle of estrogen and one of progestin that I'll never use again. BTW, Julie, in the US, you are NEVER given unopposed estrogen.
Oddly enough, hormone positive tumors are slow growing and low grade-the best possible prognosis.
Still can't get the clonadine.

Really sorry to hear that Tinker. Great that you pulled through though.
I went through something similar myself being diagnosed with nodular melanoma which thankfully responded to treatment.
Clonidine is ok but I think it depends in the size and nature of the opiate addiction you are withdrawing from. A small pill or H habbit should respond well but in my own circumstances (180mg methadone) nothing is really gonna touch that .
It does work well with pregabalin to help you sleep and reduce that horrible anxious feeling.
I think clonidine, pregabalin and a benzo are the best three comfort meds available and will reduce symptoms considerably. Shame pregabin and benzos have their own associated withdrawal though.
Is clonidine something youd try?

Ketamine (not great HR advice I know) can obliterate withdrawals. Should be used sparingly for the most uncomfortable of times.
Again, can be habit forming. It works like nothing else I've tried though. Just small doses, holing I wouldnt advise.
MxE also, yet thats a bit harder to get hold of these days, not quite as effective as Ket but it's action works far longer.
If unfamiliar with disassociatives then probably best avoided all together.

I found a really intersting DVD on medical ketamine administration as a general anesthetic on someone's desk at work the other day. I didn't get to watch it all plus the bloke who's desk it was is a tit and I didn't want him to catch me going through his stuff (I've worked with him for 3 years and I don't think he has even bothered to remember my name yet).
Anyway what I don't get is how when used for this purpose ketamine is always given with IV midazolam since it's supposed to be incredibly unpleasant when you wake up. If it's that unpleasant then why do so many people take it? Maybe it's a dose thing as the amount needed for general anesthesia is pretty high. Having never taken ketamine it's always something that has confused me..

It can make you feel off sometimes. Never unpleasant. What's a full anesthetic dose? Obviously roa/BA comes into play.

It's not so much the pleasantry, or lack thereof, as it is the disorientation, sensory distortion, confusion, delusions and psychoses not playing nicely with snapped femurs, electrode wires and uniformed strangers who just keep prodding...
