One time heroin use one day before vivitrol shot?..

I am scheduled for my vivitrol shot tomorrow afternoon at 3:30. I currently have 32 days clean from all drugs.

Question is, if i were to use one time today, how bad is that shot tomorrow going to shoot me into withdrawals?

Please only educated answers. Thanks in advance.
 
If you haven't used in a long time and used once, then were to get the shot a full 24 hrs since your dose of a full agonist, it's unlikely the shot will be problematic (at least in terms of precipitated withdrawal). My concern is why you thought it wouldn't be a horrible idea to use dope a day before you commit to essentially six months of sobriety. I would give whether the shot is for you a really hard good think. If you have a horribly slow metabolism and used a lot of dope, theoretically you could be thrown into precipitated withdrawal. Only truly safe thing would be to postpone the shot for at least another 24hrs, but the risks of precipitated withdrawal aren't that high (as it would be if you'd have used something longer acting 24hrs before the shot like methadone).
 
I was doing a lot of research on vivitrol last month, thinking I wanted to go on it. Toothpaste's thinking is pretty much in line with what I read. If you do get the shot tomorrow, the fact that you've been abstinent for a while will *probably* outweigh the impact of one shot... but obviously it's iffy.

If you *do* take the shot, I hope you'll post about it. In the end, my doctor talked me out of vivitrol and put me on suboxone. But part of me is still interested. It just sounds fucking brutal, though.

You would get thrown into precipitated withdrawal. It would be extremely painful and unpleasant, and then naltrexone is going to effectively cause you to be unable to relapse again.

If you have 32 days off all drugs, just tough it out one more day. In the event you relapse, you will need to wait through acute withdrawal all over again.

I would disagree with everyone above me that one usage won't be problematic. It could be, as the brain returns back to its state of addiction really quickly after a relapse.
 
Yeah and if it is going to be bad, its going to be really fucking shitty. Honestly there is no reason you mentioned OP not to wait another day to insure that youll not get thrown in precipitated withdrawal.
 
you'll be fine. i did it and was fine. i withdrew using naltrexone (pill) after 30 straigt days of using 2 bundles - that was hell. i relapsed shortly after w/d and used 10 bags 2 days before i got the shot. i was fine. nothing happened at all.

Yeah but that was 2 days before the shot. OP was saying 24 hours before his appointment (which will more than likely turn into a little less). If you're absolutely set on doing this, I'd give it more time to be on the safe side.
 
And wait, if I read correctly by your second post--you were going to use sub before you got the Vivitrol? (I know the title says one day heroin use but the next post by him right after his OP says "sub", like he meant to say that's what he would use? )

That would be the "not a good idea" factor just due to sub's long half life

Otherwise, what the others say in that with no physical dependency a drug like heroin would be off the receptors long enough to be ok and not go into wd is probably accurate

Still--just mindset wise--if you are aiming to stay clean and have in fact done so for a month--why the need for a last hurrah so to speak? That's just going to mess with your psyche. What you have going on is your addiction whispering these thoughts into your mind of "just one more time before I quit". And sometimes that's all it takes to get a foothold and be right back into active addiction. ...
