Anything will help. I've searched all over the Internet and everyone says something different so I'd rather just get it from the experts hahaha.
If a person who started at 50 MG so day percent, now is at 35 MG vocodin and would like to do a taper with minimal withdrawal without using any other meds to do so, which is the best route? I have seen the PDF file from Utah state that says 10 milligrams a week, but that's like over 3 months, then I've been people say it leaves your body in 3 days so but down 5 MG every 3 days....
Any advise would be so great!

Suboxone. I had to be on it to get off opiates. Now I'm detoxing from the Suboxone because I've "graduated", and don't need it anymore. I decided to take on a cold turkey quit, so I'm anticipating the nasty side effects soon....but NEVER TAPER OFF OPIATES WITHIUT MEDICAL HELP. It could kill you

This is incorrect. The drugs from which death is possible if the addict engages in abrupt cessation are benzodiazapines and alcohol.

While an opiate detox is unpleasant, it is not potentially fatal. People using Tramadol can get into trouble, but this is because it's also an SNRI.

Also, tapering off is great but towards the end it can get tricky...for example, if you go from 50mg to 40 mg to 30 mg that's all well and good, but each incremental drop represents a larger percentage as you head towards zero.

Eg 40mg to 30mg = 25% decrease
30mg to 20mg = 33% decrease
20mg to 10mg = 50% decrease

and so on....

Good luck :)

Opiate withdrawals are not usually life-threatening (unless accompanied by some other severe medical problem). Unlike benzodiazepines and alcohol, opiate withdrawal does not have the potential to cause seizures.

Check out the Tapering Plan Megathread for some tips and ideas. :)

you say you don't want to use other medications to get off the Vicodin, but what are your thoughts on Kratom? Is it legal where you live? I kicked opiates using other methods, but one of my friends told me it was an absolute miracle. I can't speak to the efficacy of this, but it's something I've heard a lot of other people talk about as well. I think it's something you should look into. Tapering off opiates with zero help is much easier said than done.

Hiya justalilproblem :)

Welcome to Bluelight, the land of the experts :D

I would advise you to go to Basic Drug Discussion n ask them - or ask for this thread to be moved there. You will receive more responses there because that's where questions like this then to be asked. Were you addicted to this or using as a result of pain? The reason why people are advised to taper by 10mg a day is often due to their addiction n the pull of the psychological addiction as well as the thret of withdrawal. Also many people have other commitments where they cannot afford to "be off sick" so that's why they do the 10 mg a week taper. There is no "right" way to taper or get off opiates - it's what's best for you. Most opiates have withdrawals of three to five days and affect people differently; some may suffer dreadfully with restless legs whereas others may suffer badly with diarrheal. No one here will know how you're gna be effected if you, say, jumped cold turkey.

So my advice would be to go to Basic Drug Discussion, either with this thread or creating a new one, ask this question and read through your responses, give yourself time to think things through

Wishing you the very best of luck <3
