Hello People, I'm trying to taper down from my mostly over the counter codeine addiction and could do with some help. I was taking 32 tablets a day and have reduced this to 10 of a lower dose over a week and feel terrible! I would like to know how fast or slowly I should be reducing amounts. I really don't want to give in, to have to start all over again. I checked out other similar sites but this one seemed the most fun, friendly and informative. Not even sure if this is the right way to introduce myself? Should I be less direct? :?

I amnew also ya say you get codeine tablets o.t.c.never heard. Yet I am looking for the cough syrup w/codeine for a cold that keeps me awake Dr.gives antibodies yet I dont sleep and cold lingers on cause body can't regenerate.
Now as for cutting back try half doses. If u r not comfortable try a bit more. I had a surgery go bad and they talked me into taking Oxycotin this scared me yet he bet his professional self if used for pain I would not get hooked, and sure enough I slowly stopped in six weeks I put them away. We all are different so dont drag this on if not having any luck get help. I know you can be Medically tappered off. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS.

Welcome :) There is a part of the forum which is called 'Other Drugs' This gives lots of info about codeine and am sure there will be many people with helpful advice on your needs.

Alan I can't believe your doctor said OxyContin would definitely not be addicting! That's great you didn't get addicted but it's a very addicting drug. Some even compare it as synthetic heroin.

If your feeling bad then your reducing too quickly, if you can manage that then stick at it as it will be quicker to get off them. However if your really struggling then this is when a lot of people just stop with the taper and then you have just wasted your time.

You should be looking at dropping slowly so as to not cause you that much discomfort - if your doing 32 a day then drop to 28 a day, see how your feeling and stay like that for a short time before dropping to 24 or more if you feel like the last drop was manageable. See how you feel on this and then taper when you feel used to the difference.

I hope that if your using a mixed product your doing a cold water extraction (if the tablets contain paracetamol etc).

Your introduction is fine :) - Normally though this section is used for people to simply say hello, posts seeking help etc are better of placed in the relevant threads.

Good Luck

Hi everyone. I am not an addict, I have never even been close to drugs, but I found out that my boyfriend has a painkiller addiction. He said he takes up to 3 pills of 20mg oxycotin or something like that (he said they are different every time) and only takes them when he is stressed out. However, I think he is lying since he works part time, gets money from his dad, and has a roommate (the apartment is his) - yet he never has anything saved. Is this a lot? Should I be worried? He refuses help, says he is not an addict, but he nods off every single day. We have a long distance relationship, so I see him through skype most of the time and don't know the reality of the addiction. Please help. Should I tell his dad?!

Welcome to bluelight! Check out the other drugs forum for info on codeine, unfortunately the only way to get off opiates IMO is either toughing it out or smoking lots of pot. Benzos also help take the edge off but that will just give you a new habit lol
