First of all, I'm new to this site. So if I say anything that makes me sound stupid, it's because I don't know much about...much. Anyway, I'm a mother to five kids and their needs come before mine. That being said, I have severe dental pain. I've tried the basic OTC meds and they don't touch the pain. I go back to the dentist in two weeks, but every day is a struggle. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm open to trying "non-traditional" ways of taking OTC meds, but I have no experience doing that.

Any advice you can give will be much appreciated!

I have the same problem. I broke my foot and didn't even feel it that's how bad my mouth feels.

the only thing that takes the pain away is marihuana.

In my area there are topical products to help relieve dental pain, like Anbesol. They don't cure anything, they just numb pain periodically til you can get to a dentist.

If nothing else is available and you tolerate alcohol, swishing a high proof alcohol beverage around in your mouth can provide some numbness, pain relief. You don't need to swallow to get the relief.

Like you I've not found OTC medications particularly helpful for dental pain. The best thing is having my dentist take care of the cause. Best of luck to you. I do know what your experiencing and how its just unbelievably bad. You'll get it taken care of.

Are you opposed to taking narcotic pain killers?

2 weeks, geeze, that's no good. You at least on antibiotics or such? You could have an infection that could get way more gnarly in two weeks. I'd find a way to get to a dentist quicker, or stress to your dentist that this is an emergency, ER if that fails.
Ambersol is about as good as it gets for dental pain without a prescription.....but you could use a prescription. If your mouth is hurting that bad, I assure you you would be a better and more observant mom on a reasonable prescribed dose of Vicodin or Codeine until you're no longer in pain. Again, if you don't know what the pain is from it's probably an nasty infection that needs treatment now.

Gargle inside your mouth using warm water boiled with salt (use the warm water as you can hold in the mouth). Do this twice a day. Hopefully you'll feel better after doing this. You'll have to go the doctor, because this method is just for your temporary relaxation.

Do you smoke cigarettes or vape any sort of PG/VG e-liquid? Even "vaping" nicotine-free e-liquid can dry out the mouth and cause gum issues.

Most smoking-related/vaping-related dental pain stems from gingivitis and receding gums, initially. There was a BL'er here who, perhaps by coincidence, lost his canine on his e-cig puffing side after vaping e-liquid, possibly by localized gum recession. Also, I've read anecdotal reports of vapers' gums receding near the area the e-cig "vapor" passes through.
