Ok guys it may sound like a case of first world problems but i quit smoking in feb of 2009 and it took a couple of years til i was smoke free but in all honesty i haven't had a smoke for 3 or more years but i still chew about ten pieces of nicotine gum a day and still wear a 21 mg of nicotine patch every day. I was thinking for NYE to go down to the lower nicotine patch and try and taper my way off them and the gum. But going without nicotine replacement scares me. I don't know how i'll go i was such a hopeless smoker, easily 2 packs a day when i smoked and don't get me wrong i am so happy to be cigarette free but i don't know if i have in me to be nicotine free. Any tips from people have quit would be helpful. The nicotine replacement costs me 80 dollars a fortnight which is nothing compared to what smokes cost in my home town ( 24 dollars a packet of 25)

Just make up your damn mind that you want to stop, and you will stop. It is really that simple and always has been. Don't doubt your own resolve and conviction. You existed before nicotine and you can again.

I would recommend learning how to be still, through meditating and other activities that don't encourage jittery behavior.. learn to slow down and be happy with that. A lot of it is really to do with repetitive behavior patterns and anxiety is certain situations, and not the power of nicotine itself (which isn't actually that great, despite what you've been conditioned to believe).

In summary, you can do it mate. Just fucking do it :)

I use this type of Nordic tobacco patch. It's not snuff or chewing tobacco, it looks like a mini tea bag that you've place in your gum and it releases nicotine. It's less harmful as from my experience as it doesn't have chemicals and it can be used quite mildly. Search for 'Snus' closed patches, not loose. It's available in some countries in Europe and in many cities in US.

Thanks for the replies guys, i went down to the 14 mg patch today and i feel ok, i'm also gradually cutting down the gum. Hopefully i can get to the point i am no longer dependent on nicotine.

well there's lots of evidence that pure nicotine is much less addictive than tobacco (some speculate it's because of the harmala alkaloids in tobacco which might potentiate the effect of nicotine). when I quit smoking, I had an ecig for a couple of weeks, then I stopped completely. can't say that I was craving hard after ceasing the ecig.

Well guys i can inform you that i am on day 4 of not chewing nicotine gum and i am on the second week of wearing the 14mg nicotine patch and yeah i had some mild withdrawal tense feelings that i can't really explain, the withdrawals are no where near as bad as when i first stopped smoking cigarettes and to be honest i only feel a subtle difference since cutting down. I'm not sure how long i'll use the 14 mg patch for but i want to be fully adjusted and have no cravings what so ever once i decide to go down to the lowest mg patch.

I smoked .2 of ice last night and i find meth get's completely rid of my nicotine cravings for a day or two but after i have slept the meth off i need to stay calm as the nicotine ravings rebound, After i've slept that will be the big test for my nicotine cutting down regime.

It's all in your mind. You can quit smoking permanently by making up your mind strong. Don't feel for the nicotine and most importantly nothing is gonna happen to you if you not consume nicotine for years. For first few years the addiction will hunt you but after that you'll find strength to bit it up.
