How do you know the margin of error unless you have even more accurate scales? Serious question

Simply don't trust a lone value, always triple weigh at least.
Volumetric dosing is most reliable.

You can buy sets of calibration weights to test how accurate your scales are.

Granted, but I meant how does Badger know the accuracy is +/-3mg unless he has another scale of known accuracy, or has total confidence in a reference weight?

Edit: didn't see Ponch's post - but how does one know if the calibration weights are accurate? As far as I'm aware, accurate weights are very expensive, yes? No?

Yeah a decent set should be pretty accurate IIRC, I guess you would need to hope the manufacturer isn't a complete shyster :D
