I am facing a forced detox from Methadone + Klonopin. Doc up and left practice, can't see a new doc for at least 3 months. I was on 25mg & 1mg daily, respectively. Been on Methadone for over a year, was taking oxycodone 30mg/day for 4 years prior to switching. Been on benzos for 5yrs, 4 of which have been on Klonopin. I know nobody can fully answer a question like this but what should I expect? Anybody ever withdraw from both simultaneously? What was your experience? Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

I never had to withdrawal from both simultaneously but I imagine it's going to be rough. What type of doctor were you seeing, psych or pain doctor? Are there methadone clinics near you? You may be able to find a GP who can prescribe klonopin that you can see sooner.

Yeah I heard both drugs on their own are pretty tough to withdraw from. I was actually seeing a neurologist. I was with him since a child so its just odd he left without a heads up or anything. & I currently have an appt with the only doc taking new patients in my whole area, but won't be able to be seen for 4 months. Maybe 3 if I'm lucky. Also no methadone clinics nearby, which isn't really an option for me as I don't want to be in a bad position in the future as I'm disabled and cant function with the pain.

I go to the methadone clinic I was on 30 mg for 2 months then tapered down 2 mg every 2 days until I was at 6mg because I was gonna loose my ride. the taper was 99 percent painless idk if its because I was only on it for a little while or what but I asked the doc there and she said its because that's a very small dose and the body doesn't have that much of a problem metabolizing it so I probably wouldn't get sick if I went back up and stood on longer. I ended up doing that and I'm still on. So maybe it won't be to bad? If you can get a weaker opiate like hydrocodon for the withdrawal that'd be perfect as long as you never withdrew from hydro it will take you a long way. you'd be able to take it for a couple days without withdrawing. Just don't stay on it longer then a couple days then stop for a couple days see how you feel then you can try again. Unless you just wanna cold turkey It and go through it

Thanks but I don't really have much of a choice but to go cold turkey as I only have a small amount of Methadone left. Also I do not have access to anything other than my medical marijuana. I have a MMJ card so I do have access to concentrates and whatnot. Don't know how much thatd help things tho.

Because of the benzo and the length of time you've been on it I would go to the ER and tell them your situation they should give you enough klonopin or diazepam to hold you over until you can find a new doctor to either resume or taper off. I'm sure you're aware coming off benzos too fast especially c/t can be life threatening. Good luck.

I've heard that they can be life threatening but was never told why. Is it the elevated seizure risk? If not what? Also how likely is a seizure? Does that not only occur in high dose users? Thanks. I'll prob end up going to the ER today as I'm starting to feel somewhat confused, high bp, trembling, hallucinations etc.

Yep seizures. The higher the dose the more likely you are to have one if c/t especially on short half life benzos such as Xanax. With yours having a long half life you might be fine but because of how long you've been on it why take the chance.

Okay went to the the ER today. Got there and was told by the doctor " the emergency dept is not for that", what they meant by that I do not know for sure. They gave me 10mg diazpam IV. I was then discharged with a rx for clonodine & gabapentin. I was told I'd be fine CT & that I "might feel a little nervous for a few days" & that I was a man and should "tough it out". Just an update, I feel horrible as one might expect.

Sorry to hear, any doctor worth a damn should know better. Hopefully you can find a doctor compassionate enough to help. Please keep us informed on how you're doing.

Just wanted to let everyone know how it's going. It's been over a month. Still in acute withdrawal, mainly from the Methadone. It's insane how long it's lasting. Severe distortions of perception, wallls slanting towards me, things appearing to "melt". I suspect I've suffered several seizures from what I can piece together. I do not know for sure though. Thanks for the replies everyone.

Damn. This makes me even angrier at the state of healthcare in the united states. Kratom might help you to mitigate some of your withdrawal symptoms. It really helped me when I was tapering from heroin and getting ready to go into detox and rehab.

Thanks for the suggestion Manboychef. I was using kratom for a week or so it helped while I had it. Unfortunately I do not have enough money to acquire some more. Anyone who's been through benzo WD, can you share you experience? What helped get you through? Also does anyone know roughly how long Methadone withdrawal lasts? It's been a while and I still feel like I'm in acute WD

Would phenibut help at all? Alcohol in measured amounts would at least mitigate some of your starving GABA issues? Possibly kava for anxiety too. I found some relief with a lot of red wine, kava and passion flower extracts. After the initial problems I added tianeptine just to feel a tad less depressed and miserable.
I wish i had a perfect solution for you because your treatment by the ER physician broke my heart. Stories like yours make me so upset then I hear some docs joke about this kind of situation. I really doubt he followed AMA guidelines in the way he chose to handle your case. Hell, when people end up in my ambulance with benzo and methadone withdrawal the best on call docs always order some nice valium, versaid or ativan stat and have some empathy for the patient's pain. I hope that one day when you are feeling better you let them know how you were treated.
The ER physician in my family has more than one tale of warnings, sanctions, and more frequent investigations into their ER practices after patients complain to the state board when their pain or withdrawl symptoms are not handled in less than an hour and there's a possibility of seizure.
I would think if nothing else they could at least get you an appointment sooner, this is disgusting and wrong but i have seen them do it for friends and family so when you feel better please please please be the squeaky wheel!
I'm keeping a good thought for you and so sorry you were treated that way. What an embarrassment to the health care system.

Im sorry to hear about your situation, its really bad that doc's do treat people like that hey.. I was on mmt for 2y. Got diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis and was in chronic pain. My doc said he'd help me with pain meds but only on the condition I stop the methadone.. Not knowing any better I started tapering the methadone with what I had left as my pain was now better with oxycontin's. I was using tramadol 400 a day and xanax before the oxy. The methadone withdrawal was a nightmare the sleepless days, bicycle legs ect.. I was in about 2wks and I had a seizure..
Total withdrawal time takes about 4months for majority of symptoms to subside

Good luck .. I know what it feels like but you can do it!! Just maybe try and get some benzos as soon as you can for the precipitated wds

Well I had a seizure, lost touch with reality. Woke up with my younger bleeding, foam at my mouth from why I've been told. I was acting really odd for three days, don't remember much of any of it. I was told I drove myself to the ER, a family member insisted they come. Thank god. From what I was told I was given a clonodine patch, bental and something called toradol ?, and was discharged. I don't know how they couldn't tell I wasn't all there. Got home and apparently someone offered me a perc 30, which I took. I guess that snapped me out of it although I was confused as fuck as to the day. Last thing I remembered was feeling a little manic 3 nights ago. Can't keep anything down for the last 5 day. Haven't slept in 3. Thank god I'm young or I'd prob be dead. Sorry for the long ass post
