Is it ever okay to troll children online?

its not funny, its in bad taste. the internet is not the place to tell people jokes where interpreting it as a joke vs what amounts to death threats, requires body language and tone of voice.

its usually coming from a place of hate as well.

i don't think its an exaggeration because that is what people will comment on youtube videos, i can't remember what happened when that person commited suicide due to the people from a subreddit relating to fat-hate i think, all leaving nasty comments and other abuse on the persons channel. resulting in the subreddit being deleted, and other mods of subreddits going on strike. 'free speech' and all that.

But what truly makes it wrong? If the person chooses to commit suicide, they clearly had problems before they even got in the situation of being trolled. All it means is that the trolls convinced them of something they truely wanted. Nobody is gonna kill themselves over internet insults if they weren't already suicidal. And if they are suicidal, then isn't it just an act of free will exacerbated by the internet. The action is still what the individual wanted, it's just an emotional state pushed it on them earlier
Is their death objectively a big loss? (it is if they're fat... "big" loss... Sorry, I couldn't help it, that joke was shameful, but the opportunity presented itself. I apologize.)

Do I detect somebody trying to cover up a guilty conscience? You haven't been flaming these kid on their youtube channels have you? There really should be an age limit for posting, and children should have their own children's section.

Now... mocking and trolling these clearly mentally disturbed children seems mean... But come on, at least one of these makes you laugh?

However, are we morally required to consider peoples feelings? There's about 10,000 people who would have a great laugh. Is the humor of thousands of internet trolls worth this one boys frustration. Why should the feelings of one individual hinder the fun of others... When I was in high school we'd make tons of shitty gay jokes that we thought were funny because we were immature... good times. But then a gay student did come to the school. And we continued doing the same thing again. Not to spite him, but because we weren't gonna let one dude ruin our fun.
Yes we were assholes, but who isn't at that age honestly.

Trolling is morally wrong in some cases. Telling people to delete their system32 folder is just plain dickish. But let's say you... I don't know, type "homo" on a video some retarded kid made. You doing it isn' a big deal... But what if 20,000 users call him a "homo", and repost the video all over the internet, so people will mock and shame him years after it's old news.
We make remix videos making fun of them, and commentary videos making fun of them, and such... I'm sure they probably hurt these kids feelings. Especially since most kids who make this shit are probably autistic. However, they chose to make an ass of themselves online. Doesn't that give us the right to cyber bully them?

However, some people say no kid should be trolled or cyberbullied online ever.... even if they seemingly deserve it.

This kid committed suicide because of simple trolling... his cyberbullying, to most, is so minor that it's hard to feel bad for him. I honestly don't. If you're that weak, you're better off leaving his world.
However, does that excuse the actions of his trolls? Should his trolls feel bad for his death? Trolling is harmless under he idea that everyone online is mentally stable.
How are you supposed to know who's mentally stable and who isn't? You might be insulting a rape victim, or a suicidal person. You may well have pushed someone over the edge yesterday.

Basically, if I troll some 7 yr old kid who makes shitty video, and he commits suicide. Am I, and the 100,000 other trolls, morally responsible?

More negative gargabe from our little friend. I hope you get tired of this place soon....:|

Evidently my sense of humour is not refined like your own, because I just found that to be sad. No child should need to get that worked up because of arseholes. No child should have to defend themselves against trolls online. That's makes me angry

A child in distress is not petty or unimportant, least of all funny. That you find it funny is an indictment on you, a scathing indictment on your inner qualities.

I wish you had bullied me. I went to multiple schools, mainly because my I was one of those kids who would yell in class and start arguments, push the teacher, run around like a fuckin loon and just pointlessly refuse to do things asked me. I was expelled from multiple schools, went to 'special schools' and it made no difference. Because I was always the new guy, with weird baggage, I would always get bullied. I was a terrible target though, because I happily got into physical fights with anyone (including female teachers :\). At one school, I had a group surrounding me at my first recess, calling me psycho, retard, racist shit. My father taught me to fight, so I systematically chased down these students, knocked them down and kicked/stomped them. I set a record, expulsion within 3 hours!

(But I deeply regret the violence I used, but it was how I had been shown and seen at home... I'm 'friends' with one of these guys now actually)

After that, I went an advanced school and have never been bullied again. I think bullying children is cowardly and utterly pathetic. I deeply regret the violence I used as well, and have learned there are better ways. However, I would insist on teaching my son how to fight (if he wanted to) if I saw that he similar qualities to me that might make him a target. I would mainly teach him not to lose his temper, as I did.

But then a gay student did come to the school. And we continued doing the same thing again. Not to spite him, but because we weren't gonna let one dude ruin our fun.

I literally wasn't. As I said above, I happily took on any weakling that tried to bully me regardless of their size,, and I always wbon ecause I was taught by my father that, in a fight, it doesn't end when the guy is down. I no longer believe in violence unless attacked, and never the extreme violence of my father.

I don't know, type "homo" on a video some retarded kid made.

Emphasis mine. Straight off the bat, you are unpleasant.

No, nothing gives you the to devalue another human being, online or not. That you fee it is a justification suggests that you have no actual value system.

However, some people say no kid should be trolled or cyberbullied online ever.... even if they seemingly deserve it.

Imagine! People have this notion that they can live unmolested! Those bleeding hearts! :\

Truth is, there are assholes out there who will try and bring you down, such as our delightful psychedelic soul who will is willing to lay blame at the feet of victims. There's the other side that don't take shit; I do sort of hope you encouter someone like that. :|

Yes, you bear some moral responsibility IMO. Your action has lead to an outcome.

But why would you even care- you clearly don't seem to care about anyone who isn't you, and I'm not convinced you really admire yourself all that much.

There is a huge chance that this thread will just get locked because its really pretty shitful...

Really... that kid was like, "I will not HAVE IT", and that other kid was crying over "sonic adventure fantasizers". You didn't laugh one bit?
Isn't humor a defnese mechanism? Doesn't all humor come from pain in some sort of way... I mean, Spongebob's principle form of humor is making Squidwards life hell. And meanspiritedness is balanced by catharsis. The ridiculous things those kids said in the video build catharsis... How his kid said homosexuality is wrong cause they said so on the news, or the other kids blatent disconnect from reality in thinking the sonic fanbase needs to rally behind him.

I identify as ex-bi, and a lot of people woudln't believe me... Some think my statement on sexuality is ridiculous, and that would build catharsis against me.
If a gang of people started calling me "fag" over and over again, and I started crying, wouldn't the catharsis from my statements and beliefs make you laugh? Isn't pain what humor is all about?

I'm glad you stood up for yourself but... I'm not calling you out or anything, but don't you find your own behavior somewhat to blame? Just a little bit? Not the fighting but your initial behavior

Well, is making fun of and bullying the same thing? For me, that's like saying a wolf and a dog are the same thing.

Emphasis mine. Straight off the bat, you are unpleasant.

Ya PC bro?

I'm playing devils advocate here.... Do you really define any form of teasing to be "devaluing a human?"

Imagine! People have this notion that they can live unmolested! Those bleeding hearts! :\

It's just as easier to imagine that people have different ideas of what counts as "bullying". I mean... Is it realistic to expect a person to make a video on youtube, child or not, saying ridiculous stuff... and not being called names?

Truth is, there are assholes out there who will try and bring you down, such as our delightful psychedelic soul who will is willing to lay blame at the feet of victims. There's the other side that don't take shit; I do sort of hope you encouter someone like that. :|

Now you're pissing me off... You're making the assumption that I support bullying. I was bullied my entire childhood. I'm just not claiming that every mean thing that happened counted as "bullying".

Yes, you bear some moral responsibility IMO. Your action has lead to an outcome.

And how did you know the "victim" didn't just to dumb conclusion and misinterpreted what was happening? Plus... do you expect everyone on the internet to be nice all the time?
Think about it... This one kid committed suicide because people made fun of his fanfic and said mean stuff. How can they be expected to consider such an overreaction?

These topics are very difficult to get to stay on topic.

I really have nothing much to say in response to you. I am sorry that you were bullied, but lack of empathy you exhibit makes it hard to believe.

psychedelicsoul's threads are triggering and disingenuous. Why ask questions you already have the answers to, and are corralling people toward from the get go?

If you hate children so much and think they deserve to be bullied into committing suicide then please go back to the rock you crawled out from beneath.

I'm not sure if they are triggering or not (I don't know what that means) but there are a lot of them around.

PS said:
Luckily I hate children with a burning passion.

Yeah, "lucky".

Sorry dude. Noting further to discuss...
