A quiet albeit strong campaign against DXM use has been underway. While this hasn't been a new thing for a while it is defiantly increasing in momentum.
A quick search yielded no such results for me and I felt a responsibility to alert people about this, as I have seen little news OR discussion about this from the other side.

I have mixed feelings about the bill and it may be good to SOME extent to restrict sales to teenagers , some of whom don't know the different of taking a DXM only syrup versus taking loads of Guaifenesin and acetaminophen, destroying their liver as a result . Either way such a bill will increase further tensions with DXM if passed. It's possible DXM could be a prescription only thing 10 years from now if such campaign continues to condemn DXM use.

Maybe they should put pure Codeine or better yet Hydrocodone syrup or make Cophylac drops (10mg per ml of Normethadone and 20mg per ml of P-hydroxyephedrine) a OTC medication and get rid of this evil scourge of DXM addiction ;)

DXM blows as a recreational drug but all these do gooders will probably make it a little more difficult for someone who has a cough and just wants some fucking Nyquil.

I tend to think it may not be a bad idea to restrict DXM more. It can cause some irreversible psychotic effects if abused.

^ Yeah but i wouldn't say it's any worse then Alcohol in the long run in terms of damage to the brain and body. Probably alot less dangerous in fact. Plus what are they gonna do card people for it? It has such low abuse potential it's not worth even making prescription only.

I was stupid enough to do DXM while on SSRIs, I'm pretty sure i may have serotonin syndrome now but imo it's a lot less harmful than other drugs if done RIGHT and safely. there's some evidence it is very harmful though if abused over time such as bromide toxicity and the bodies up keep with something regarding PH. but i personally don't think it is dangerous if you used it say one or twice a year at most.

Why even bother with DXM when you can get MXE straight to your door and is way more betterer as far as the disso thing goes. Ban DXM and RC dissos will go up. Stupid drug war legislation solves nothing. Oh, but the children (that will start abusing DPH instead :p)

This honestly doesn't seem like an all bad thing. The issue they're trying to prevent is 16-20 year-olds trying to abuse DXM and becoming sick when consuming products with multiple active ingredients. To stop that, you EITHER need a prescription or need to be 26 years old, because they're not the ones who are having issues (if I read correctly). That means if you're 18 and you're sick, your Mom can go buy you Nyquil without an Rx. It's different, but arguably less severe than the restrictions on pseudoephedrine.

I knew kids who abused dramamine, much worse than DPH imo

Well you could just educate on the right products to use, if you choose to do so, rather than ban. Either way, it doesn't really concern me. I kinda liked DXM for a while, but not really into it anymore. I just would be concerned with people using more dangerous drugs to get an OTC high when you have something reasonably safe that gets the job done.

Correct me if I'm wrong but these two are roughly the same drug and effect afaik.

Didn't read the original article, but if it keeps kids from going overboard and really fucking themselves up (saw it happen when you could get pure powder back in the day) I'll be ok.

This is just going to balloon other otc drugs that people think they can get fucked up from....dxm is a terrible drug to take reçreationally, I've seen some real horror stories when I was much younger with ppl taking corocidin, puking and acting crazy....I've only taken it when I've had a cough, and it isn't even that good of a cough suppressant haha.

I read it as you can be 18 and buy it but no id is required if you are over 26. How someone judges this is beyond me and while I am against prohibition, this will surely prevent high schoolers from getting DXM to abuse. Idk, kids will still find ways. Seems kind of a waste of time to me.

Bullshit, you don't think that sounds like a bad thing? (read correctly or not).

You're an adult at 18, not 26, not 30, 18. And I for one am entirely sick of this new attitude in society that someones not an adult until they're 30. Not all of us are lucky enough or privileged enough to have mommy and daddy looking after us till we're 30, or 26 for that matter. I'm 26 now and haven't lived with my mom in a long time. A couple years ago, I had the flu (not a cold, the flu), and I had to drag my sick ass to the doctor and then to the pharmacy to fill my prescription myself. My nearest parent doesn't even live in the same state. Christ, 20 years old is old enough to BE the mommy buying medicine for her sick child.

I'm sorry if I seem to be overreacting here. But unlike seemingly the culture we live in now, my mom raised me with the attitude than the second I turned 18, I was an adult, responsible for all my mistakes, yet free to make them, and that she had absolutely no intention of allowing me to live with her all through my 20's. And the way she treated me, kicking me out proved entirely unnecessary since I was perfectly happy to run away across the state line to get away from her. And as for my dad.... well.. what dad? So hopefully you can see why someone like me might find your comment profoundly presumptuous and offensive.

It's one thing to restrict alcohol above the age of adulthood, that's purely and exclusively a recreational substance, but medicine is a whoooole different story.
