Gabapentin ??? HELP

I was put on 600mg gabapentin 3 times a day. It doesn't make me drowsy like they said it would or any of that stuff. But, I get super angry. I get really mad and super anxious. Does anyone know this feeling? It junks. I dunno if it's the meds or something's up with me but I hate it. Has anyone else felt like weird or bummy on gabapentin? My doc didn't say anything about feeling violent or anything. I just feel like freaking out or beating something up. Anyone else?

Yea, gabapentin reacts differently with a lot of people. It can be speedy and numbing at the same time. If its totally fucking you up, lower the dosage or get off it completely. I myself like it. I'd call the doctor and tell him what s going on.
1800 mg can be a lot for somebody. You could always cut your dose in half and take 900mgs, which is the common starting dosage.
I'd make the doc switch if its too bad.

Take a smaller dose. Gabapentin can cause irritability and agitation when you first start taking it. I'd speak to your doc if it persists.

If you've only been taking them a few days, I doubt you'll feel any withdrawals.

When I was first prescribed Gabapentin, it was at 2700mg per day. I'm now at 900mg per day. To my knowledge, I've never experienced irritability or anger as a direct result of Gabapentin. But different meds effect people differently - definitely talk to your doctor about switching it up.

are you prescribed or taking anything else?

have you ever taken benzos (Xanax, Ativan, etc) or GHB or other drugs that act on GABA and if so what was your reaction? just curious.

do you drink while on Gabapentin? It may potentiate certain drugs resulting in exacerbated symptoms... just a thought.

Don't even waste your time with gabapentin man. It's a total waste of time. I've been on it for about four years and it doesn't do anything to me anymore except not allow me to sleep if I don't have any on me. It works okay for like a month then stops doing its thing. Not everyone gets the withdrawal, but if you do get it, it is FUCKED up. Not worth it at all.

Ya there is a withdrawal associated with it that kind of sucks. I was on 3600/day then just stopped cold turkey, felt horrible. Gabapentin has many varying reactions in people that's why it's prescribed for sooo many off label uses. It just might work for this or that but who knows until you've tried it right?

I HATED gabapentin--I was started on like, 100mg or so, which I guess comparatively is a really low dose, but damn. It made me drowsy and hungry, which made me gain weight, and didn't touch my pain. I stopped taking it and had no withdrawal, but again, low dose.

Gabapentin works best when small doses like 300mg, are staggered every hour until you feel where you want to be( for those who like it). I like GABAergics myself. . Gabapentin has less bioavailability with higher doses. The body can only uptake so much Gabapentin at once. Those high dose pills (900mg) are worthless IMO.

Anyway, that was a little education for those who wanted to know.

Gabapentin still works for me and I take Lyrica. If you expect the drug to work more than a few times, take it once in a while, otherwise you will get used to it and think it's worthless. It's all how you perceive it and use it.

If it's not your cup of tea( which it's not for plenty of people) get another type of drug. There is nothing wrong with that.

I mean it makes me get like anxiety attacks and just feel so irritable and angry. I'm on it for bipolar disorder, and it junks. Makes it way worse. I just didn't know if it was common or a know thing for it to make people so anxious and angry. Also thanks everyone, this has helped!

I get some nasty anxiety during the latter end of the experience. No anger or agitation issues but a deep feeling of both physical and mental anxiety. It's a shame because the first few hours are fantastic. I become extremely social and anxiety free. Anyways I wouldn't worry too much about others experiencing the same thing. If the drug doesn't jive well with you you're better off leaving it alone, we're all affected by medications differently.

Yes. I have punched my hand through the wall several times since this medicine and lyrica. The smallest annoyance just makes me fucking furious for some reason. Sometimes I feel like I want to murder someone. It's all very random and weird.

I usually use it for headaches...just took 400mg
Helped me thru opiate and benzo withdrawal. it should mildly relax you. Probably see your dr. those aren't normal reactions from Gabapentin
