it was liquid methadone first 75mg that I titrated down to 30mg then zero. I was refused opioids cause they, being the doctors thought it should be sufficient for my pain. So I had to turkey the methadone.. Yea I had a seizure. Anyway I saw the doctor who treated me post seizure and he prescribed me a months patches.

I was put on mmt when my pain had subsidided 2y ago. Only to have an attack last year.

You're welcome, pancreatitis is the pits. More common than i was aware of too. Where are you living stef (country)?
 
Not the best place for public healthcare, south Africa. Kinda sucks. So I have to pay cash to see specialists and so on. But being unable to work in my current state its a bit difficult and complicates things a bit further. Being a Caucasian male makes it even harder to get propper treatment belive it or not, things are reversed nowadays. .
 
That sucks, reverse racism huh? Were you born there, have a family? Anything keeping you in SA is what I'm getting at,- seeing as it sounds though your getting the bare minimum of medical care.

just taught and it sounds like a potentially real handy thing to block pain instead of robbing pills off the health services when they could go to people who need them more just saying.
 
^A potentially real handy thing to do, not just in society in general, but more specifically on online forums,- is not to be a cunt. In fact I believe it's in the BLUA, just saying.

Yep thats right, like you wont believe.. But just to give u an example at discharge from hospital the state hospital the doc wrote me a script for tramadol. 100mg x4 dly for a month. Get to the pharmacy. They give me 20 apap and 20 tramadol for the month.... Sorry we dont have enough tramadol... Btw that tramadol didnt touch the pain. But hey I aint spetsnaz or anything like that so I'll have my fentanyl patch every 72h thanks so much..

Anyway yea id like to leave the country, just have to save up ect. Rtp looks like a troll .. Smells like a troll .. Probably is one ey'?

I read that assinine remark and thought "this fool has never been in pain". Yea, you can "exist" without medication for pain, but not LIVE. I would say if one "enjoys pain" they have even bigger problems.

Stef...I'm so sorry you aren't getting adequate medical care. It happens in this country, too, though that brings no solace. The horror stories I could tell of misdiagnosis, failed surgeries, treatments, and discharged from hospital to die. COST is an issue with big pharma. My PM doctor (asshole) told me "There are new pain meds that can change your life, but they are EXPENSIVE".

Basically, I cannot afford the extended release meds that could help me.

I feel such angst for your painful condition. One suggestion...If the Fentanyl eases your pain, perhaps 48 hour changes would be more effective. Back in the day when I tried the patches, 48 hour wasn't allowed. Now it is, if that's a possibility for you? I hope so.

Yea DIXI, that wont be an option for me. The 48h change I mean. Im actually ok on the 72h. But I do get some days that I wish I can change sooner... Or easier - slap on an extra one, but thats just daydreaming:-)
And yea surviving pain is one thing, living IN it is the total opposite.. Guess I should move to Russia then hey? Hahaha..

Btw how did that kratom work out for you? Just curious pm me if you need to
 
Hey Stef...If the 72 hour dosing schedule lasts for you, then PLEASE stick with that so you don't get more med than necessary. Try to make it last so that your tolerance doesn't increase too rapidly. I'm sure your options are limited. I would think GI issues are a constant companion with pancreas issues?

My doctor wanted me on the 48 hour change schedule, because years ago I tried the 72 hour intervals. I would spend that 3rd day in total WD, though I had no clue what was happening to me at the time. The patches I used back then were gel filled. The ones I trialed most recently back in February were the "matrix type" I think it's called. For whatever reason, the med caused horrid SEs and offered NO RELIEF.

The Kratom I think has potential, as I don't think I'd have emotionally survived last week. One of my Dals died unexpectedly. Although I am devastated, I am not destroyed...almost numb even. I don't think I've gotten to a therapeutic dose, because my tummy pouch cannot handle multiple capsules at once. There's always a hurdle, isn't there?

I pray the Fent continues to work to give you some level of relief. I'm around if you need to talk. =D
 
anyone here know if getting a lot of MRIs can be harmful? I imagine it could be dangerous but what do I know? I've had 7 in 3yrs and i'm supposed to have 2 more
 
^^Yep the MRI's aren't the ones to worry about, had the same concerns also after having so many of them. I think I've had 5 in the last year. I've enjoyed all of them especially the full body skeletal one cos it took so long - I really enjoy the rest. Having the perfect excuse to lie down and do nothing......no work, no kids, no stress. The stress comes after the fact, waiting for the results, have I got a tumour or is it something worse. I found myself actually hoping the source of my pain was a benign tumour - at least I would know what is causing the issue.

Hey Stef, sorry to hear the crap you are putting up with in S.A. I hear people say the doctors just want to get you on pills to satisfy the bottom line of big pharma, well not any of my doctors especially when it comes to opiates - none of them want to be the ones that write my prescriptions. My GP is desperate for my Pain Doc to take over this responsibility but my pain doc avoids the conversation and just talks about the risks with regards to addiction, well that ship sailed buddy cos I've been eating these things for 12 months or so.....he is just keen to cut me open in hope that he can find the source that way which is fine with me but every time a procedure fails I have to come back in for an appointment that costs me $150.00 for a chat about our next move. My GP has me on fortnightly visits to get my prescriptions filled, there's another $50.00 each time.....the cheapest thing in all of this are the drugs.
 
You may not believe this but you and I have been through very similar things. Acute Necrotizing Pancreatitis at 26, I was given a less than 10% chance to live, I had developed a pseudocyst as well that required invasive lavage twice a day every other day, portal HTN (Hypertension) Spleenic vein Thrombosis, The damage was so severe from the initial attack that I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver along with Gastric and Esophageal Varices. After 1 year they took my gallbladder out (which was calcified) , they tried laparoscopicly and that failed so they opened me up, all in all it took them 8 hours. On the day I was to be discharged my hemoglobin was 5.6 (the average adult should be at 14) so I was bleeding out. Turns out they didn't know about the gastric and esophageal varices and during surgery they love to pump your veins full of fluids and blood creating a ton of veinous pressure so, a Varice burst (varices are like varicose veins in your digestive track) Esophageal Varices are veins linked to the liver and the liver LOVES to bleed. After all that and so on and 1 major miracle I managed to survive thank God!

It sounds like to me you need a good GP or PCP that really cares about you and will fight for you, Also get a gastroenterologist ASAP if you can or the equivalent where ever you are and again find one YOU like that will listen to you, I don't know where you live but you need to go to a pain management specialist (usually an anesthesiologist) Most medical schools teach 2 week courses to medical students on pain medicine whereas everything else gets months it seems like. An anesthesiologist pretty much has the market cornered on their knowledge of opioids and finding the right one for you. As far as your situation now goes, usually MD's don't practice alone and have assistants or another MD covering for them when they leave. You need to get to that office fast. Your only other option would be the ER if your pain is that out of control. I know it seems impossible now with your whole situation but it can and will get better. A lot of doctors do not know much about pancreatitis and it usually scares them half to death just to deal with one. That's why you need to research and get the knowledge for yourself. You have to advocate for yourself as well, I am a pretty soft spoken guy but if something comes up regarding my health and I disagree with my doctors plan of care or whole assessment then I'm going to let him or her know about it and we're both gonna come to the proper conclusion together. If they're not doing enough to help you then you have to speak up because no one else will. Remember you are PAYING these doctors so they work for YOU and no one else in that moment. I think that's all I have as far as advice goes. I really hope something here helps you and wish you the absolute best of luck! Just remember that this is not impossible. There are doctors out there that you'll love and can help you.

your GP/PCP or Gastro doctors can give you referrals on pain management clinics or an anesthesiologist
 
Hey again dixi, yea common gi issues that I have/ had wit the pancreatitis is spastic colon inflammation in my bowels some stabbing pains here and there. The worst tho was preritonitis. The diabetes and steatoreah. Just do a search on the last one as I cant explain. Im sorry to hear about your loss, grief never is an easy thing.
As soon as you mentioned about the 3rd day withdrawals I could relate and I do also experience it a littlebit but its not very bad at this stage, just some anxiousness and irritability mostly. I am on the sandoz matrix patches but their stickability is bad (typical of drug companies they want that patch not to last 3 days seeing as you will need to purchase more) and paying cash their pretty expensive too so I use some tape to secure it otherwise I get the WDs badly by day 3.
But hang in there, and im here too anytime

yea getting prescribed opioids here is just as hard, if the gp doesn't know you/ history the outright refuse. They'll give you tramadol tho but we both know thats like baby asprin. . Being extremely European/ western driven medically here in S.A. I think wewe sailing the same boats.
Just for interest sake have you done a search on dependence vs addiction? Maybe that could help you jump a hurdle or two? Also pseudo addiction.. Hope that helps?

Another thing my dad had pancreatitis the same age as yo so mine's inherited but anyway about him he had had surgery done on his pancreas and years later he begged the doctors just to cut him open, they found out he had been suffering from appendicitis the whole time but his appendix wasnt in its normal place it was near his liver area..?

Yea your so right about the whole gp, gastro, painclinic thing. And im not finished fighting/advocating for myself. Btw I also had that splenic vein bleeding in icu, 6pints of blood later... But I pulled through it by the grace of God I can tell you that much. I reside in southern africa, so were a littlebit behind in some things concerning healthcare.. Public healthcare atleast. Private, medical aid your pretty much sorted.
Just wanted to say, you being through the same ordeal more or less. I dont think that gps even know how painful pancreatitis actually is.. Atleast when I was also given less than 10% to live they put me on patient controlled analgesic pump in hospital.
