We Love Cricket Thread 2nd Innings

I'm still calling 3-1 to the Ozzies

"Still" makes it look like you called 3-1 before this match. You didn't. So another interpretation of what you are saying is "I think Oz will win 3 of the remaining 4 games and one will be drawn."

OK, maybe. All bets are on after all. But we'll see.

I reckon this series is impossible to call. The first Test result was almost entirely reliant on Haddin's dropped catch. No-one can predict things like that. 43-4, England were dead. To which..

..we won't (shouldn't) get carried away. Someone said England fans natural default is to pessimism. We call it realism hard learned. Ballance scored 61 and 0, Bell scored 1 and 60. They are both capable of scoring 0,0 second time around. OK, four 0's unlikely. Let's call it 16 and 3, 1 and 7. Same difference. If Root fails, England failure is highly likely. See second Test v NZ. Root can't keep scoring runs forever like this. Or can he? He's the man in form but form is temporary, however permanent the class. Long story short? Someone else has to score and it ain't going to be Ballance or Bell. IMO.

3-1. Interesting prediction. Or silly. Last 16 Tests played in England, Oz have won 2. But you reckon 3 out of the next 4?

England shared the wickets around. Good group effort. Oz seem a bit reliant on Starc and a Johnson who isn't (hopefully) going to be fed the conditions he needs. Starc is hobbling. Watson is wobbling.

And Haddin has 'personal problems'. Yeah. He's a bit shit, personally.

Can't wait for Thursday.

Don't forget it's been almost two years since Steve smith miss out on runs in a test. He isn't the number 1 batsmen in the world for nothing. Starc took plenty of wickets and was being treated for an injury . Watson has been carried for years, it would be a far better balanced side with marsh in the team. Haddin dropped root sure, but he also took two great catches off Lyon. The big difference between the two sides was England batted deeper.

England batting deeper my arse. Now do you see what I mean Busty? Root fails. Opener fails. Bell? Ballance? Do me a favour. 1 and 23 was it?

This is what I meant exactly.

You expect at least one top order batsmen to score runs. Whether it is root or cook. The thing that hurt Australian in the first test (apart from their top order going cheap) were 50's from players like Ali and stokes (although he is a pretty handy all rounder now that broad has lost his batting nerve).

Bit of a worry that one day after everyone was whinging about the flat corporate pitch being prepared, the Aussie quicks destroy the top order. Anderson might consider changing is follow through. Lyon will finish things off with enough footmarks to play with.

I like how you ignore my comments when I am right by the way (New Zealand winning the second test, Steve smith being the best batsmen in the world ) ;)

There's not a lot to argue about Steve Smith. If I went around agreeing with everything everybody said I'd have no life. If I don't say +1 to you it's either for that reason or because youre being such a total twat it should be obvious.

Mostly b) then. ;)

Cook looks even more awkward and desperate at the moment. It's the kind of innings he might struggle towards an ugly hundred though.

Andersen has a touch of the Johnsons about his bowling too

Ballance fucks up, gets dropped (rightly)

Bell fucks up, gets promoted to number 3 WTF?

I think I'm probably glad I'm going to be in non-cricketing countries for the rest of this series.

Nice ODI win today, even though it's not really "proper" cricket!

Not sure how many cricket lovers on EADD these days?

I didn't see much of the match last night. Time zones make it harder to watch than the Test series down here

Personally I am more looking forward to the second day of the first Test at the Gabba in November. Australia are on the ropes and NZ are peaking nicely.

Receiving another touch up in Bangladesh before they get home would simply be icing on the cake.

The Aussie v Kiwi upcoming series could be a classic. I would like to think Kiwi's will win but it's a short series and Gabba is a tough track for away teams and players to prosper. Although Cookie had a nice knock there a few years back!

England were poor today but finding it hard to care. The Urn is safely back in our hands :)

Short series? I don't even remember NZ being offered a 5 Test series. We at least get 2 return Test at home against them in February.

Having only a two Test series in England is shit. Personally I'd prefer they made it compulsory 3 Test series and dump 2 ODI.

I would say that the past Ashes series will go down as the most boring in memory, even more so than the 5-0 white wash. I can accept one Test being over under 3 days due to a juicy pitch but from a neutral prospective it was embarrassing from both teams.

Unless the Kiwi's break out of the cycle of only touring before the Aussies it will be tricky to get 3 tests.

I don't find it embarrassing that we twice did the Aussies in 3 days!

What about the two Tests you were rolled?

Like I said from a neutrals prospective it was fucking dull. If you want Test cricket to be the pointy end of the game it has to entertain. Watching a batting side slog hit when they are only 5 down cheapens the game.

Interesting to see the third test in Adelaide which will be the first ever day nighter using pink balls. It will revolutionise my working week if I can work till five and then catch the last session before bed

Out of the 2 Tests we were rolled, the Oval was irrelevant. Ashes already regained and job done. Party time. We're too nice to keep the foot on the throat. Lords? We're always shite when faced with scoreboard pressure!

Can't argue with your comment about being 5 down.

Patel being picked for UAE tour is amusing.....

Worked as a chef at the gabba (Brisbane cricket ground) a couple of years ago on my travels. Really impressive stadium.

However I thought that the Aussies were cricket mad but they ain't really..
