For those of you that take MDMA - how do you deal with your mis-informed peers?

This title may be a bit confusing so allow me to elaborate. How do you deal with those mis-informed idiots who start spouting propaganda shite about how E drains your spinal fluid, and that everyone ends up like Leah Betts?

I attended one of those 'anti-drugs' talks that they give to collages etc, to see how bad the 'propaganda train' had really got. And my God, was it bad. Surprisingly, the presentation focused around the use of MDMA and cocaine, as its use has become increasingly popular in the county. 5 minutes in, and a picture of Leah Betts strapped up to that life support machine is shown on a projector screen, to the words "This is what MDMA does to you". The audience starts gasping, soaking this shite up like sponges. I should have left around now as it was only about to get worse.....

The rest of the presentation included various Ricaurte based rubbish, and of course, the ol' heroin and rat poison in pills trick (yes that is still going). All the while, I'm standing at the back gradually boiling from the inside. The allowed the audience to ask questions at the end, and I was half tempted to go up to the front myself and just stick up a few photos of me from Leeds festival pinging off my nut and having a great time. However I decided against it =D (I value my job!)

What's worse is on the way out, I heard various members of the audience speaking to eachother, and saying stuff like "Wow, MDMA is really bad isn't it" and "People who decide to do E are idiots".

Have you ever had to deal with this shit? I've just stop trying to correct people now as it just ends up in them telling me that "It's true because the Government says it is".

Hello 1995 :D Leah Betts / Spinal Fluid - do people still talk like that ?

I would have / have done - spoken up against such nonsense and scare mongering. I have come across this type of stuff way too often (fuck we still have it on a daily basis on here). Meth 'based' pills - serotonin syndrome after 1 pill - loss of magic after one pill - never coming down after one pill and the list goes on and on.

I was once being given 'the speech' about drugs and how this does that, and how that does the other - I simply said, I have done both of the drugs your talking about and your wrong :D (shut them up).

Please tell me that isn't actually believed? Leah Betts gets on my breasts though. She died of water poisoning, not from MDMA. If she hadn't taken any MDMA that night but drank that much water in a short space of time, she would of been in trouble anyhow!

Yeah, I avoid ED now. It's full of "I took 120mg MDMA 4 weeks ago, and I don't feel right. My little toe keeps tingling at 9pm every night. Will I ever be normal again?".
 

haha this is going back a while now but...When that picture was posted in here a while back - my response was ... that reminds me I must cut my toenails :D

True, it's just a shame though. I would love me and my missus to roll together sometime, but undoing 22 years of mis-information is a challenge. Also, I don't really think her seeing me on smashed on .4 of MDMA last NYE helped. I looked pretty mashed, and she was worried I was dying and started crying. I don't do drugs around her anymore...

LOL! Dark my friend, dark. It's a shame really that more EADDers don't venture over to ED, so they can provide living proof that you can in fact do MDMA, and not end up like a cretin. I let slip on there once that I had not obeyed the 3 month break rule. Never again....
 
I used to do exactly what you did SR, stand there boiling up from the inside thinking you're an idiot and say nothing. Obviously for you it wasn't the right time to stand up and correct them.

I cannot stand there and listen to it anymore, from someone down the pub, my parents, bosses. I tell them what I think, they usually still argue their point but when challenged with sound reasoning you can see the frustration in their faces as they scramble to remember another shock headline out of some rag they read.. Try it, it's funny if nothing else. :D

I had a conversation with a lad the other day who I've being working with, he was very anti drug and by the end of it I'd swung his opinion. Not that he was going to start taking drugs but he saw the sense in my/our argument for true harm reduction.

I'm glad to hear it! Unfortunately due to the nature of my job, talking to my co-workers about any form of drug use is out of the question. Hence I just have to contain the boiling from within. To tell you the truth, it has become less of an issue now, in that I don't really care if other people share my stance or not. It's more the constant mis-information that is spewed these days. Like when you'll be watching the BBC news at six with your Gran, and an article relating to some drug danger/death comes on. It's utter bollocks, but at the end of it, your Gran looks at you and says (straight faced) "Those druggie idiots deserve everything they get!".

I know right? It must be the ugliest avatar on BL surely? Believe it or not, I actually lurk on BL most days, although work is pretty full on. I just rarely sign in, unless I see a post that I particuarly want to reply to. However, now I have seen how lively EADD is, I'm thinking I may contribute more often.
