Hello everyone, my name's devilsgospel and I'm an addict. *Cue group greeting*

Disregard that, I'm not funny. Last night I had a near-death experience trying to take myself out with copious amounts of sleeping/allergy pills. It was a terrible ordeal, but it showed me that I really didn't want to die. From here on out I'm going completely clean. I abused various kinds of drugs trying to escape my reality and my problems: benzos, opiates, alcohol, psychs, you name it I've probably done a lot of it. Never got to the really hard stuff thankfully.

I want to change my ways and really enjoy my life, I've been my worst enemy for way too long. I'm going "straight-edge" as my fellow followers of the punk scene call it.

Encouragement and advice welcome. I know I'm going to be tempted, but I want to be well equipped to handle it.

good luck! i hope you have a good sobriety! being sober is very pleasant for me, i hope the same for you and i hope that that gives you some encouragement

Straight-edge: fuck yeah. I haven't heard that for years. I think the last time was in some punk rock squat in LA.

Good luck, man.

For a long time, us addicts who are unhappy with the reality of our lives change our perception of reality rather than changing our actual lives, making using drugs ultimately futile as reality stays the same whether we choose to address it or blot it out with drugs. If you're going to use drugs you should stick to purely functional ones - methamphetamine, heroin, crack etc. Stay away from the harder drugs and even so called "benign" ones like alcohol & weed, and embrace your new lifestyle. I hope you find happiness.
