The Welsh Thread v. Dim ysmygu

Street? Oh you mean Cardiff? Yeah, do what you want here, I've lived here 12 years and am yet to see a copper. True(ish) story.

Btw what's that horrendous load of bullshit supposed to say in the thread title? What language was the person aiming at? They missed.

Well in the bit of wales i'm from you get plenty of hassle from the police - seeing as there's hardly any actual crime to go after. I feel more paranoid driving around with scruffy hair in my bit of wales than any where else i've been in england (i'm white obviosuly) - they fucking send police down here to train too. (oh and the bit of wales i'm from isn't filled with anti-english welsh people either)

Mate you live less than 20 miles away from me, in the same county. I drive everywhere, I was over your way a week or so ago. I've never been pulled by a cop and barely seen anyone pulled. You must look like a right hippie. :)

Look I'm not going to name it, that's a step too far but you know your local dealership sells two sorts? Well I haven't got a Renault. ;)

Mermz is right and I do have three (four, just thought of another) cracking stories I can't tell on here but none of them are down to the Welsh police being competent or scary, quite the opposite.

It is beautiful anonymity compared to living in London which is where I came from.

Vurt, I know where you live, coz you told me, and that paragraph there is just...wrong in just about every sense. Black kids on the streets of London get plenty hassle from the police. Sorry, you don't. And the single biggest issue I've had with our part of Wales is the overt racism myself and my partner have faced at work and at home for being English. It's water off a ducks back to me because it's all relative, I ain't a black kid in Brixton, and it comes from, as I said, 800 years of feeling inferior rather than superior, but I ain't going to deny its existence. And the stuff at work btw is in that big town you speak of. That's where we work.

I didn't say i have as much hassle as a black person - i said i've had more police hassle than when i've been in england (which still isn;t that much relatively) - they just take smaller/petty things more seriously round here, i guess for something to do - i assumed it's cos they've got more actual criminals to follow in that england - believe me or not - don't really want to go into anymore details (but i've got plenty). I've never really had that much anti english racism myself (i'm welsh but sound english) - the people of the area are quite varied really, with plenty of dickheads obviously, like anywhere

Oh you must come! We had an Arab here in, 1972 I think it was. You won't get beat up or threatened. Just looked at a bit funny. But that's how they treat me too so it's not racist or anything. Oh hold on, it probably is. But the Welsh have the biggest inferiority complex in the world so you can walk around going "I own you mate" and they can but shrug.

That's what I do anyway.

hahahahahahahahaha that gave me a chuckle lol. I don't feel we're racist towards English, only in jest. I support England in the world cup lol. Most of us tend to, with a few given us stick fot supporting another team lol but Wales never get in n I tend to see us as one. Maybe I don't see this anti-England because I'm on the border n can more or less walk to England a few miles.

What does piss me off is the ignorance of foreigners; the way everyone assumes that the UK is England or London n fail to identify with Wales. Now that PISSES ME THE HELL OFF lol they need educating. Imagine, just imagine l if I thought all the Americans lived in California? No New York, nothing. And showed a shocked face remember anyone mentioned it?

I'm with you there Evey. And coming from England and living in London for 20 years I assure you there's even English people, especially from up north, who are rightfully pissed off at the London-centricness of the media. England is only the south-east of England sometimes.

I live in the most Welsh bit of the south of Wales. And trust me, they hate the English like they hate the northern Welsh. Its the most insular place I've ever lived. I love the beauty of the place and many other aspects but I hate the racism and the lack of black faces. We did have a decent Indian restaurant for a small-sized town. My old boss got it closed down (because he's a fascist, a genuine one, no hyperbole) by reporting it for illegal workers. What sort of cunt does that? I've been told to go back to my own country and called an English nigger. I also got called a nigger in a 'jokey way' ho ho ho when I returned from Asia because I've got a good suntan. More subtly I've been regularly asked 'what are you doing here?' 'why did you come here?' etc. My gf initially worked in the local school and had to move schools because of the shit she got for being English. We now both work in the 'big school' in the 'big town' and get the same shit, different package there.

I was once speaking to an older group of locals about (what I thought was) a friend of theirs' who had just died. He'd come from mid to north Wales and had lived here about 40 years. I was told in no uncertain terms how this made him 'not a local and he never would have been'. If I lived here 800 years I wouldn't be considered Welsh.

It's not everybody, and I joke about it. But it's racism.

Wales is a strange place! I live in West Wales now, and despite being able to speak fluent Welsh and having gone through their education system, I am still considered by some to be a "Saes" (slang for 'English'/'English scum') really.

Ironic considering many of the people who hate the English are unable to speak Welsh themselves, but somehow think they have a God given right to live in the country, because their great great Grandfather owned a welshcake factory in 1832 or some shit like that.

On the flipside, Wales has some amazing sights and beaches!

As you know i live in roughly the same bit, but we must move in different circles - i recognise the basic xenophobic attitude you characterise, but it's by no means universal (and i've met the same in england) - there's actually a lot of 'cosmopolitan' people round these parts - is claiming something as universal about a 'race' not a bit racist itself? (at the very least a stereotype). And i was going to let this slide but...

Hmm, complaining about how welsh people judge you according to your race by judging them according to their race... is this intentionally ironic? ;) Btw 'our' inferiority complex gave you the the first raised red flag in merthyr, nye bevan and the nhs (and charlotte church :))

Did you miss the bit where I said

Yes. Yes. You appear to have missed that bit. Because it kind of negates your whole post 36.

But we certainly have a different idea of what cosmopolitan means.

Silent Rollers post made sense to me.

While there's a racism dicksizing contest going on, I shall top trump all you wannabe(e)s and raise the benchmark with a Great, Great Great Grimsby. Yous havent experienced greatness until youve walked on my home turf yo.

It aint spot the white man around here, bruv.

EDL and a can of carling as a starter for ten (AM in the morning or yer doin' it wrong)

No i did miss that bit sorry :) (it's early - but i don't think it negates my second point though). I just wanted to put some balance in because as well as the odd bigot, most welsh welsh people i meet/know are actually lovely - same as most english english people i meet/know (or anyone i've met for that matter (this might be confirmation bias)). Don't get me wrong i have experienced anti-english feeling growing up here as an english-appearing person, but it's not been all that prevalent in the scheme of things.

And if you're going to keep baiting me with your defensiveness Vurt ;) Imma just continue with personal stories.

Intellectual used as an insult. I had it done to me twice (so far). I don't even consider myself intellectual, not by a long way. But in my town I apparently am, and this is apparently a bad thing to be.

"You and your travelling..." :?
