Why is there such a disconnect between European and American humor? In your opinion

There's too many, almost all exclusively, Oxbridge educated tossers who pass for British comedy. Not saying they are all unfunny, Peter Cook was quite good, but I see funnier people on Bluelight who are never given a chance and I'm pretty sure haven't been to exclusive universities.

Peep Show was bollocks.

How can you not love the IT Crowd 8( (Moss in the i phone scene cracks me up every time)

If we're throwing sitcoms in how about:

Father Ted!

Porridge. Richard Beckinsale died too young. Ronnie Barker = comedy genius despite his paedo son. Many other greats in it too...and are dead also.

Anyone remember Rab C Nesbitt? Alright , a lot of it was a bit patchy, and the recent ones were dire, but still got a soft spot for it. It was a shitload of material for one guy to write (which is why a lot of it was shit :P), but it towers over a lot of stuff mentioned in this thread.

Rab C <3=D Totally!

Takes me onto Still Game?

Maybe too Scottish now :sus:

Edit: Err, Bob because you couldn't understand it without subtitles lol

Probably because it mostly is shit, but in a good way. Gregor Fisher pulls it off and it's enjoyable , far less annoying than only fools and horses anyroad.

Hmm, maybe I'm thinking of the big bang theory - that was shite wasn't it? And American toboot...

Did the IT crowd have a couple of geeks in a basement office and their boss was some blonde piece?

Yes. And Big Bang Theory is garbage. It takes the piss out of dorks, nerds, and weirdos, and the audience (canned laughter) is supposed to be on the side of the non-dorky female character.

The complete opposite of that is "Community", which is fucking hilarious (and American) and is completely on the side of the dorks, nerds, and weirdos. I love it.

I agree with all of the above.

I was on a date recently when she told me that big bang theory was her idea of brilliant comedy. Thankfully the date went terribly and we haven't spoken since.

Aye Big Bang Theory is a bit shit. Was alright at first but it's so damn predictable and Leonard is annoying as shit. Mayim Bialik is pretty excellent in it though, remember an episode where she has an absolutely massive painting made of herself and Penny and mentions that they were originally painted nude. Haven't watched it in ages though, was always summat I had on in the background. The IT crowd is excellent tho, watched it a few times through on Netflix, Moss reminds me so much of my old housemate, gonna watch that US pilot of it now because throwing Richard Ayoade into what I'm imagining is your typical UK to US show transplant sounds hilarious.

Edit: Need to get watching Community as well. Modern Family is also pretty good as far as US comedies go and manages to be pretty moving sometimes without being sickening.
