Hello I currently have a tolerence of 80-90 mg of hydrocodone or about 60mg of oxycodone. I am very scared of taking the subutex because i had a friend who took a full one and was vomiting and shaking for hours. What dose of subutex do you think i should take? I have 6 8mg pills. I really want to get off of these pain pills and i'm going to use the subutex to help me but i need to know the dose i should take i really don't want to vomit everywhere and start shaking and shit. please help!

Start with 2mg or 1/4 of a pill. If you don't feel better within an hour or two, take another 1-2 mg (depending on how not better you feel) and keep moving up slowly. You shouldn't need any more than 6-8mg I wouldn't think, and if you only have six pills honestly I would really try to stick at 4mg or less daily, even if you're still a bit sick, and do a couple days at 4mg, then go down to about a week at 2mg, then one, and down and off from there. But you don't have enough to make it an entirely comfortable process, just so you're prepared.

I can get more in about 2 weeks. Don't you think 2mg is to much? I am really scared about overdosing but i also don't want to take to little... Do you think 2mg is equivalent to 90mg of hydrocodone? Thank you so much for your reply it really helps dude.

If you take 80mg of hydrocodone per day, 2mg of suboxone isn't gonna kill ya. BUT, I AM NOT A DOCTOR SO DON'T TAKE THAT AS ADVICE. My advice would be, if you're uncomfortable with 2mg, start with the smallest piece you can cut off.

I really think 2mg should be fine. I used to take 8mg of subs with about a 1g/day heroin habit. I think 2mg is a decent starting dose for you given your habit. If you're worried about it, take that advice up there ^

I can shed some light on what happened to your friend. You have to be in withdrawal before you take Subutex, the opioid in Subutex is buprenorphine which has a very high affinity to opioid receptors knocks off the currently bound opioids and put you into precipitated withdrawal. You really want to get on to opiate substitute therapy where you will be aided by a doctor to avoid the sort of things like what happened to your friend. He did not overdose, just went into precipitated withdrawal. By itself it is hard to overdose on Subutex as it has a ceiling of 32mg. Point to note, you can take your regular opioid after taking Subutex but it is unlikely that you will feel any effect unless you wait more than 12 hours but then you risk precipitated withdrawal again when taking the next dose of Subutex.

The advice is to score 26 on a COWS test before taking Subtex.

Do you know how long you are supposed to wait after taking an opiate? Do i wait 24 hours or longer?

thank you for the advice. I am very nervous about this but also sort of excited. My dad passed away a month ago and I dont want to keep taking opiates anymore so thank you for the advice.

It depends, but with short acting opiates yes try to wait at least 24 hours. Precipitated withdrawal is the worst thing I've ever experienced. But if you wait as long as you can, at least a day, and start with a low dosage, you should be okay.

The advice on the sheet that comes with the medicine states to wait 12 hours after your last dose. This can sometimes not be enough, it is best to wait until you really feel withdrawal come on.

The problem here is that Subutex is only going to extend your opioid addiction and Subutex withdrawal will probably be worse than what you are currently taking. You could always bite the bullet and go cold turkey, give it a week and you'll be past the worst of it and a month you'll be free. For some this is experience enough to stop them repeating their mistake.
