**ADVICE NEEDED!**Seizures after smoking crack?**

Hi guys, I have a friend who smokes heroin on foil regularly, and occasionally has a couple of pipes of regular size, regular quality crack cocaine. Last night after a pipe of the same stuff we always get, that I had smoked and been fine with, he suffered a mild seizure, and minutes later blacked out again. He had a pipe of the same today and the same happened, more of a fainting than a seizure though, but minutes later he fell and hit his head and seemed out of it for a few minutes and didn't know what was happening. He has never had a seizure before, and is of good health. Any advice or knowledge would be amazing, thanks so much guys!

Seizures should not be ignored. Has he ever had this happen before? Your friend needs to see a physician ASAP. Tell him to lay off the drugs in the meantime. The next time he falls out, he may not be so lucky.

Hi T. Calderone. Thankyou for your response- I completely agree. He is reluctant to see a GP and wouldn't let me phone an ambulance, he feels it's not drug related and due to stress, he has never had one before and doesn't seem fazed, however I am worried sick!

Cocaine is a known cause of seizures, probably by both being a strong stimulant, sigma agonist & by blocking sodium channels in the brain. Especially if you're smoking it.

Unfortunately the writing on the wall means your friend should probably put the pipe down for good. If you're having seizures after smoking cocaine you are probably not very far away from a stroke, heart attack, or other nastyness.

Please keep away from heroin. Sometimes people cook it from codeine or morph. and they fuck it up. It can permanently cause brain damage.

either you got a bad batch of its just simple toxicity. from either drug. Either way not a good sign...you may now have siezures for the rest of your life.

I am sorry but this is just simply wrong. There are most likely a few different synthesis pathways to achieve the acetylation of morphine to create herion but your wording is wrong. Sure if you are dealing with a "home bake" sort of heroin from conversion of morphine pills you could end up with some contamination from a poor synthesis and purification. However those contaminates are not active and most likely wont present themselves as seizures if they are damaging but rather necrosis of tissue, think the "krokodil" thing in russia, this is essentially what you are warning of and this type of heroin is not likely to be on the market but rather one that someone makes for their own use. Also the seizures from drug abuse most likely will not develop into a chronic disorder as you are suggesting and will stop once the usage of the drug causing the seizure is eliminated.

A high dose of cocaine can cause a seizure and it should be indicative of an OD unless the person is at the end of a 3 day binge and has not eaten then it can be a glucose or blood pressure event. Everyone is right about taking a break if not stopping for good and seeking medical attention just to be safe. He may not need an ambulance ride but there is no harm in getting a check up just to be safe.
