Gibberings CXCV - Back in the day we'd change a thread title and it'd stay changed

I love nick knock and would so play it but then the kids follow my activities. I just knock down the odd letter box now.

He's not even doing any work. He's just making a distracting noise so you don't catch him listening to System of A Down.

Well I wish I'd thought of that. I'm back now and I can assure you I was doing something worthwhile. ;)

I've just moved Phase A of the floorboards up to the loft. Some hammering was involved to make the job safe. %)

But thanks for giving me the idea that there is in fact somewhere I can listen to System of a Down without headphones. Perhaps that is the entire point of flooring the loft??? :D

I haven't done that yet! That's a special delicacy I am wanting to bestow upon my Heathcliff.

Today I have been mostly ordering gear to go camping rough for 3 or 4 days next weekend. Should be... interesting! Going to plod through the woods and boil water we find or whatever. Dunno about food yet! If I never come back assume I died of dehydration.

If you spent the day ordering stuff - how rough is it going to be ? Get a lifestraw and if your not hunting / foraging / shoplifting etc pack ramen!

I was going to say hi to TG then realized that I would have said hi to everyone else aslo - so hi everyone. Gardenlane is a new name :) so hello to you also (wait your that gorgeous woman with those brown eyes - welcome to BL :))

@Ceres: Haha, I think we'll take food ;) I'd feel bad trying to slingshot a bird or snare a rabbit, even if I could do that. Being vegan won't make it easy...although I seem to revert back to vegetarian when with mates which annoys me immensely as I can't stick to my principals!

Theres a shop and a pub half way along the route apparently so it's not quite as bleak as it seems. I've got some awesome kit arriving and already arrived. Well pleased :D

@Bearlove: Life straw ordered already ;)

get yourself a biolite stove, burns twigs to cook your dinner and also generates power to charge up usb devices aswell.

oh and don't forget your penknife!

I've got a solo stove ordered, ceres :) ... I have a solar charger/power brick/battery thing which holds a decent charge and i'll charge it off the mains before we go.

I think I have thought of everything. No doubt I have too much stuff! I don't want to look how much I've spent on it all though...

Love a wild camp Mr Tangerine, what kind of environment will you be romping about in - woods, mountains, moors, moon... :D

*waves to Mr Bear*

@kate: Mostly woods... as far as I know! I've not been to the area before. But we wanted to try and do some 'activities' I dunno what exactly. Theoretically theres loads we could do... learn to use map and compass correctly and take turns leading the way for a start! Making fire through various methods depending on weather. Could try and build a shelter... I want to try and make a bow drill for fire but It may be a pipe dream that one.

Watching lots of ray meres and seeing the things he makes/crafts etc. Bought one of his books which is quite interesting and contains all the methods to do this stuff.

I've only been camping at festivals so this will be quite different. Hopefully enjoyable!

Sounds fantatic and scary! We've done "off grid" and it turned out ok but yeh, its risky business. I like that kinda bushcraft fun :D I do cook and fire is my specialty! %)

I take it you are not doing this in Scotland? If you fancy more of the same get in touch we know some magic places up norf...

Enjoy. It's vibrant and sensual and you're so close to nature its amazing %) xxx

@Bearlove: It's up north somewhere between york and malton. I'm pretty sure 3 nights, 4 might be pushing it.

Erm shit, Rucksack, 1man tent, sleeping bag, blow up bed n pillow, axe, saw, knife, lighters, stove, water bottle, plate, spork, pot/pan set paracord, lifestraw, chlorine tabs, emergency food ration pack thats got 5000 calories in it, head torch, torch, spade, spare tent pegs, karabinas, signal mirror, first aid kit, topped up with what was missing from the initial pack. tarp. knife sharpener, fire striker thing. Waterproof inner bag for rucksack. power brick/solar charger, map, compass, mountain whistle.

Waterproof top, and bottoms, fleece, teeshirts, microfiber towel, mini fishing kit, shorts, cargo pants, gortex boots. heavy duty socks. Soap, toothbrush, deodorant.

Binoculars, plastic containers, tinder. knife sharpener, backup knife. There's probably more! Everything is camping size/light/compact as possible. Especially the tent, sleeping bag, blow up bed. Well everything I guess! Oh... small spatula and a brush for cleaning if I fry anything up. tiny bottle of sunflower oil, container of salt. TOO MUCH! I went a little overboard lol.

@kate: If I ever venture that far up that sounds like a plan :) Yeah I'm hoping to get closer to nature/learn about the flora and forna however it's spelled. dyslexic typing!

I'd love to go off camping somewhere! To a nice woodland place, with lots of trees to explore (get lost in, really). I sadly cannot drive and don't have a willing person to accompany me! Probably because I'd get scared shitless at every noise!

I've had a couple of beers and some MXE.

I'm just back from a traumatic 15-minute long tech support session with our retired South Korean next door neighbour, in the hallway on top of our storage shed thing.

She's just bought a new laptop. She has no fucking clue how to use it. I can barely understand a word she says. I think she said something about not being able to start youtube. She was clicking on all the Chrome and Internet Explorer icons repeatedly saying that it wasn't working. I tried to explain to her that every time she clicked on something, the computer's memory would try to do it, and it would all build up and go slow, and that it isn't like a phone, and then she told me a story about someone phoning her about viruses and wanting money, and then she wanted to re-arrange her desktop icons, and I showed her how to use the mousepad + left button to move them, and she was all thankful, and then I showed her how to restart Windows, which it did, and then she hit the power button 4 times while it was doing so, and then I typed www.youtube.com into Chrome and it came up, and I think she went away happy when I said I really need to go now cos my tea's ready.

Kafka-esque tech support. I wish I hadn't answered the door. :|
