Coming off Codeine

I have been on a moderate codeine binge, for a few weeks. Took Tramadol before that (had such a good supply at low price) and underestimated the med. Each capsule is 50 mg and I would take 250mg at a time easy. I stopped the Tramadol and over to Codeine, up to and beyond 100 mg a day. Tapering off these last days I have been taking 37 mg codeine in the morning then 15mg at noon and 7mg in the evening. Then it struck me as not such a smart thing to do to start the day wih a dosage that gave euphoria. Today I started taking 7.5 mg every 3 hours and I am just barely hanging in, irritable legs mostly, no aches or runs. But irritable as f... Watching the clock for the next 3 hours. I use 2-4 mg diazepam to along with it. Half life of Codeine is 3 hours, so I might be spacing it out right or just barely wrong. I still have a small stach of Tramadol I could use too, but havent until now.
My plan is to do same again tomorrow, 7.5mg e3h. Suggestions?

I think your intuition is serving you well. Your doses were not high to begin with. Take it easy.

Thx Jackie, I was not trying to get high, but more a sense of wellbeing, which has of course left for the time being. Any ideas on the half life timing or changing over from one evil to Tramadol (in the wiening off process)?

I would say tapering yourself off is the best plan.. Just remember to not treat yourself with a little extra.. It's like starting all over..lol

Right! That is why a long taper is dangerous to me, too many moments of temptation.

Now spacing out intake by 3,5 hours instead of 3. Still on 7.5mg pr. If it goes well I will drop to 6mg pr 3.5 hours tomorrow. I frequently wake up during night time. If the timing was right I would take a dose, but now I think its not a good idea. If I wake up at 2 or 3 I dont take dose

Stop listening to screwed up music, learn to like the raido station that plays new pop songs. Once you get your foot tappin to the beat then the next time you drink some codeine its going to taste like shit.

Or just replace the syurp with dextro cough syurp, still mix up the sprite and jolly ranchers, and just sip that and smoke some weed along with it.

You're prolonging the agony (IMO/IME) You're talking about miniscule doses of Codeine here. I wouldn't usually suggest this but just jump off!

I've been through horrific Opiate & Benzo withdrawal many many times, I know pain and suffering is a relative thing, but the doses you are taking really should not cause you too much pain. I really hope I don't come across as cold and harsh because that is not my intention.

Good luck.

Thank you and I am inclined to agree with you, especially the prolonging the agony part. Have my eyes on the cĺock and stick thè med in my mouth right on the minute. Arrrrgh

Ok. Just binned the rest of my stash. Told wife. She happy and I hope that means supportive. Thank you and I will keep you posted. Now I dont need to look at the clock so much!

first day off

Doing ok. No worse than when weening. Glad I took Pete's advice.

Still keeping clean. Irritable/ restless feet about my only complaint. Tough telling everybody my 30 yrs sobriety was a sham. But brought some good humility to the table
