ativan or xanax

for gad what wold you guys choose if a doc gave you a choice 2mg ativan 3x a day or 1mg xanax 3x a day. i am currently on klonpin 3mg a day and i also get one peach of xanax a day for breakthrough panic. my doc shrink whatever gave me a choice to just use short acting benzos last time i saw him and i think i should have made that choice. the only problem is he used to prescribe me 2mg ativan 1 a day before i got on the kpins but considering they dont do shite (the Kpins) the offer was .5 xanax 3x a day i can get me to switch me to 2mg ativan 3x a day but why is he offering .5 on the xanax when .5 xanax equals only 1mg of ativan.

Neither. Benzo's for anything more than short term-use is a terrible idea; it is not a solution for anxiety, only a short-term one during periods of intense stress. I'm amazed a professional has prescribed you benzos for gad. I hope it's not for more than a few weeks at the most.

That being said, I personally would choose Xanax - it's anti-anxiety properties are the most pronounced of any benzo, IMO, and the effects hit very quickly and hard.

Please re-consider using benzos for daily anxiety...I know about intense anxiety, trust me, I know how horrible and debilitating it can be. Unless you truly need these drugs to function, please re-consider their use. Exercise and eat well and try to get good sleep etc. Sorry for the rant but i've seen to many people get burnt by benzos.

My three go-to benzos for anxiety and panic disorder.

3x2mg Ativan is a better deal than 3x0,5 Xanax, so I'd go for that. Everyone responds differently though; some find lorazepam sedative (I do not) and alprazolam is notoriously amnesic. If the clonazepam didn't work I'd go for Ativan. Almost as strong as Xanax for me against panic but more forgiving if you take a pill or two more.

i get horrible memory loss on ativan i have been told by the er doc that is what it is suppose to do though

sorry i am asking what has more of a recreational value in your guys opinion for me 2mg xanax and im good to go but the high lasts 1.5 hours for ativan 7mgs and i am good to go which lasts like 5 hours so with this new information what would you guys choose. i do have gad but i also like to "enjoy my scripts" if you get what i mean.

in all honesty why not just try both and see which suits you better ?
from over the years of hearing rec stories xanax seems to be the number one choice because xanax just hits your harder
just be safe i can see how it is easy to keep redosing which can lead to a black out
i would get memory loss without adding anything to the party from ativan i can only imagine mixing in alcohol or making a pill concoction

If you're looking to actually counteract anxiety on a daily basis (not a good idea with any benzo), the Ativan is probably better suited for that (Klonopin would actually be my first choice but apparently that doesn't work for you). If you're looking for the best for recreational use, I would definitely say the Xanax.
