Gibberings CLXXXIX - Squirrel Nut Zippers, the Albert Hall and going cookerless

My mate used to live in the crescents... Used to score in The Spinners until that guy got his head blown off with a shotgun....

Nice. :\ I'm glad i never went there after hearing that. Was that around the time of "Gunchester" when the Gooch Close and Levenshulme/Longsight gangs were out of control, culminating in a gunfight in the Royal Infirmary?8o

The spinners was a mental pub. If you wanted to score all you had to do was go the toilet - you'd be immediately surrounded by black guys shoving bags of everything in yer face. You just took yer pick, paid yer money and got out sharpish. Then you had to try and avoid the dealers in the car park, get on yer bike and ride (like the wind)... Cheeky fuckers were even chopping their hash on my bike tank once until I told them to fuck off...

Despite Hulme's reputation, we had nothing but good times there. The biggest problem was the cockroaches....

The ghosts are still there, y'know.

A couple of years ago I had a night out on MD and Bromo Dragonfly and decided the best way back from Chorlton was a 4am walk through Whalley Range, OT, The Moss and Hulme.

I met two lads who were sizing me up for a mugging till they noticed how crazy I was, and I skinned up for us all.

Not recommended, but fun.

Its annoying me that i cannot recall an area of manchester, just beyond Urmston, which was said by one of my ex work colleagues to be rife with all types of criminal gangs. Drug dealing was rife, you could even hire a hitman there if you wanted. For a while it had no bus service as the bus drivers didnt feel safe. Argh its so annoying when you have memory failures like this. Wtf is the name of that place? Do you know Sammy G, Fubar or Warrior?

No idea mate, Manc was never my stomping ground apart from parking the truck up when the crescents had been condemned, winter 87 at a guess. For some reason I seem to suffer from memory loss8(

Moss Side do you mean? No it wasnt Moss Side.

Yea thats what meant. My parents went through there often n past Strangeways, when going to wholesalers.

All will be well after 7.30 when i've read the kids their bedtime stories and can commence smoking the weed that killed Elvis.

Awh what ye reading them? Mine gets reas Enid Blyton or Hello Kitty lol

Edit: i love Manchester. Never been to any rough areas though. Just to Oxford Road, met uni, Piccadilly, city centre. It's friggin ACE! Such high buildings n every time I travel there I feel free n alive!!!!

Flixton is just past Urmston, but I really dunno. You're getting deep into Trafford there. Unless it's the other way, in which case it could be my old manor, OT / Stretford.
