Honestly? Yes. People have become too far removed (thankfully) to the things that are now "ironic". I suspect those old "No Black, No Irish, No Dogs" signs go for a fortune on eBay cos the acute stage has faded in memory leaving behind a low-level chronic problem that doesn't realise it is a problem because we don't actually lynch niggers on trees of a weekend for kicks anymore.

I completely understand that is the correct stance. Point accepted, I recognise it's in poor humour That's me telt off.... :o

I don't think it makes us simple though, just different levels of morality. Are you telling me when you were younger your morals weren't skewed at all? I think it's just a part of growing up finding what is acceptable or not but these days times are changing & I think it takes longer for people to find their moral compass.

Oh I totally agree. We used to play a game at school called "Race War" which involved all the white kids on one side and everybody else on t'otherside chasing each other and battering fuck out of each other. Good, wholesome, hilarious stuff at the time but kinda cringey in hindsight. I'd grown out of such things by the time I left school... at fourteen... how old are you, Chatty?
 
Morning all.

Long time lurker here, finally popped up to agree wholeheartedly with everything Mr S has said. Making lighthearted fun of disability seems to be the last acceptable kind of non PC pisstake and I agree that its a real minefield. I used to happily use 'Monging' etc until I had a small person who showed up with Downs and I realized where the term came from. Not getting at anyone cos we've done it (happily call myself a midget cos I'm 5ft. Slap for hypocrisy).

Promise I'll come back and say something less worthy tomorrow. Happy to provide a pic of myself using a stepladder to.perform fellatio if it helps.
 
^I'd never make light hearted fun of any disability as i've one n have had constant bullying for it which still happens to this day. I mean its good to have a sense of humour but not directly at anyone that would hurt them in any way possible.

^ your message is mixed, evey. you're telling us we should just take comments like this as a joke and lighten up. now you say (essentially) that it's problematic.

i agree with shambles on this. i also like the "Would you say this to the person's face?" rule. the security and relative anonymity of an internet connection seem to make it easier for people to post comments that, at best, lack compassion and are often just thinly-veiled hate.

i hate to paraphrase but some responses seem to be, essentially: "i don't find that distasteful so you shouldn't either" which seems pretty illogical, at best.

Oh and don't worry Alasdair, I'm not questioning the stance on BL... just making some philosophical conversation out of it all.
