Hello Friends,

<I> lives in Chicago and has snorted H on and off for quite some time now. <I> has been blessed to do it recreationally and not get hooked completely. <I> has suffered through withdrawals before but just recently <I> has been snorting H everyday for the past 3 weeks. Now, <I> wants to get off of it completely. <I> is wondering if he should take methadone to help with the withdrawals, SWIM only plans on taking a little bit if the withdrawal symptoms get really unbearable. He is mentally prepared for the withdrawals and know that they may last anywhere from 7-10 days. Is he correct?

Is it safe for him to take a little bit of methadone for a day or 2 to help with the symptoms? <i have> strong will power and knows that methadone is addictive and the dangers of it but he only has a little bit and is in school and has to get stuff done. This is the only reason he wants to take some methadone.

Is this ok? Thank you.

EDIT: Welcome to Bluelight:) we dont use swim or any other representation for ourselves here as it provides no legal protection and makes post harder to read.

All i can say is please think about methadone and be sure it is right for you. I dont know if a day or 2 will do more harm than good for you, but methadone put my sobriety back a few years. I personally dont see how a day or 2 will help.
It can be used to get your life back on track and get you "out of the scene" untill you are strong but in my opinion the wd is so much worse. It lasts so long.... I couldnt do it. The clinic i went to was more about maint. Than detox, so maybe that matters but you need to look at the half life of h, and the half life of done.
When i tapered off of methadone i was at .5 mg and i lasted 7 days. 7 days of hell before i gave in.
Im detoxing from oxy now, its day 5 and my wd never got near what i felt coming off of methadone and im starting to feel better.
I regret methadone, i know it has helped many so please dont take my word- im just up late with insomnia trolling threads and i had to at least warn you, i wish someone had warned me.

People dont really do the SWIM thing on this fourm, but thats beside the point...

I really dont think two days of a small amount of methadone (like 20-30 mils) will give you methadone withdrawal. That being said, is there any short acting opiates, besides dope, you can get your hands on to get you through your responsibilities until you have like five days to actually go through with it? If you only used it a week, your withdrawal should be very mild.

Good for you!

Hey 1901 and again welcome.:) Here are some really good medications for opiate acute detox. I would not try methadone until you have tried these. methadone has a real long half life and can make withdrawals much longer. A week is a good estimate for the worst part of the withdrawal from herion. These medications really make all the difference for allot of people. You will also have to address your addiction and any paws you may have. Will power is great but the unconscious part of your mind, the part thats addicted is allot stronger than your conscious, the conscious is in charge of will power.

The Brain and Addiction (under construction)

A sucsesful plan for getting snd staying clean will involve at least four things.

1)plan to address and make it through the acutes.
2)plan to address and make it through the PAWS
3)plan to address and cope with the addiction and facilitate a peaceful life in recovery.
4)find and address the root of our addiction.

Addiction is really a complex phenomenon. I realize there is allot of information there but it all really is relevant. You can do this and buy going at it with all you can find you can transform yourself and your life into something amazing. it really doesn't take that long if we put it as number one in our priorities and everything else seems to kinda work itself out quite nice. you can and will do this:)

No don't venture into dones it will only take much longer to get clean and delay the process....if you look at it with a clear non drug addict mind set then wanting to stop drugs and all it's effects doesn't mean take alternative drugs....just stop and you'll be back to life in a week vs 3 weeks...then the real work begins with staying active gym biking swimming hiking dancing whatever your interest needs to begin daily full force become obsessed with sobriety and your hobbies and work, friends, lovers will all reap the bennifits

yeah this is some solid advice...im on day 6 from no suboxone...wish I never got on the stuff. same with methadone, maybe take it for the first day, but its really just prolonging the inevitable.
