the amount of heroin testimony in "The Dark Side"

i guess the worse is poly addiction. People who is hooked on i.v. meth and heroin, and then use massive doses of long duration benzodiazepines mixed with ketamine to sleep have the worse time quitting

(is this un-topable or can some other substance be added to the mix to make matters worse?)
I would add alcohol for some domestic abuse and suicide attempts?:D

Thats totally true.

I believe percentage wise nicotine is the most addictive substance.

Im sure it may happen, but Im not sure I have heard anyone say they became addicted to opiates in one shot or one hit.

I have heard a bunch of people say that they became addicted in one base hit or one iv dose of coke.

@ erik.. I do not feel that an opiate addiction will last any longer then anyother addiction.

As Carl states its an individual exspierience. We are driven and can exspierience an addictive drive at times durring our entire lives towards what ever drug we are addicted to.

Right. I had forgotten about nicotine. Besides being legal, you do it once or twice a hour for years and years. It´s very difficult to quit indeed.

I'd have to agree. nicotine is compulsory on a deeper level.. like at least with heroin, meth, cocaine, and benzodiazepines you ggain SOME benefit. Nicotines MAIN effect is habit formation lol.

I think I agree with Erik that heroin seems to be the hardest to leave behind once and for all (except for nicotine that is). I have noticed in AA and NA that the heroin addicts always relapse. They may come back again, but relapse is almost always part of the deal. Speaking from personal experience, I was completely sober (no alcohol even) for about 10 years, and I'll be damned if she didn't come back and take me once again. Seems to be a lifelong deal.

I do think opiate addiction leads to a soul crushing spiritual death. It has such a profound effect on brain chemistry, hormone functioning and brings about a total inability to see the wood for the trees. A road to certain doom. If you're someone considering using opiates, I'd say run a mile, run for your life, because these drugs will fuck you up in ways you never even thought possible.

Kind of wish there was a mega support thread as there are 8 posts on the first page alone dealing with people who are trying to get clean off heroin/painkillers/suboxone. I am myself, and felt weird about posting a new thread. I would say that opiates change your personality so drastically that you don't recognize yourself anymore. Sad thing is it seems in the past decade allot of addicts fell into addiction through injuries. I used to use heroin, but from my teens until my twenties I grew up knowing an addict and being so mad and repulsed at his downward spiral that I would had bet my life I would have never ended up like him. Then a botched surgery left me with a never ending script, which led to methadone, which led to me doing dope with him. Once you realize that it fixes emotional pain, in my opinion you're facing a lifelong struggle.

I believe there is one in BDD or OD.

I believe its better to have these separate as more intimate support can be given. Please feel free to start your own thread.
