What You Listening To? v. I'll be Bach... (No Embeds)

Its a long shot but can anyone tell me the name of the artist ..something '...martin' I think. He collaborated with Nick Drake. Passed on about 2 years ago He used to cry his songs..great big bloke crying these beautiful tunes....arghh who is he?

Ed: Its ok I found him John Martyn <3

Reminds me of a long lost friend.

I love John Martyn and Van. It's strange, when John died I was talking to an old man at the bar about him. I then got a text from my mate to say John Martyn was dead. 'Solid Air' really does make the room feel like the title when I'm tripping. This is one of my favourite performances by John Martyn:

John Martyn - Spencer the Rover

truly outstanding lyrics and the tune aint bad either

That is mad. I swear on my little brother's life that I was listening to Sam Stone when I came into this thread. If you check the lyrics thread, I had previously been listening to 'Your Flag Decal Won't Get You into Heaven Anymore'. He's such a clever lyricist. 'Sam Stone' has really clever lyrics too.

But the morphine eased the pain
And the grass grew round his brain
And gave him all the confidence he lacked
With a purple heart and a monkey on his back

There's a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes
Jesus Christ died for nothin' I suppose
Little pitchers have big ears, don't stop to count the years
Sweet songs never last too long on broken radios

That was pretty swell! Real nice country vibe to it. I have never actually heard of Johnny Thunders or Patti Palladin before.

By the way, do you like any of Paul Brady's stuff? I know you like a bit of Irish folk music, like myself. He's our other 'wee man from Strabane'. Hugo Duncan is the other (haha, I hope he searches his name on google and finds himself on this forum. If so, Hugo, I listen to you every day in work and my name comes up on the BBC radio Ulster systems as Don Luigi. Please play any Scania related song for me.

Jeez, my tolerance to weed really has been destroyed by abstinence, listen to me flapping my gums.

Do you like Paul Brady doing Arthur McBride?

That's a fine version. I need to investigate Paul Brady.

WOW!!!!.... For years I said the 90s were shite but looking back on this collection, it wasn't a bad decade.... not a bad decade at all.... fun times were had.... I always swore I'd never utter these words but "they don't do music like they used to do...... and don't get me started on the 80s with the Human League etc....." Good music then.
