I UTFSE and am pretty sure this is an original topic.

Can you think of a role model of yours who is/was of the opposite gender to yourself? If so, who are they and why do you consider them a role model?

I'll start. My female role model is Courtney Love, because she sticks up for herself despite getting loads of shit from morons. Bloody love Courtney.

Oh, I'm pretty sure this is an original topic!

I tend not to think of people as role models, heroes, or idols too often, because they're all imperfect humans and have their own faults just like us normals weirdos. But there are many people with admirable qualities we should aspire to, no doubt.

Can you think of a role model of yours who is/was of the opposite gender to yourself?

Your careful wording there made me think of:

Chelsea Manning

I'd like to think I would be so brave if I was in the same position. I can't imagine going to jail for just speaking out about something, but I'm glad she did. (Speak out; not go to jail.)

Judy Garland, because she was Judy Garland.

Joan Jett, Diamanda Galás, Joan of Arc, Molly Bloom, Kali, Eris, the Blessed Virgin Mary. The list goes on.

Mainly either archetypes to help invoke / nourish my inner Diva or people whose work, outlook, character I admire. Okay, maybe one or two I fancy as well.

A paramedic I worked with at ambulance HQ who encouraged me to apply to be a paramedic in the first place.

She was really kind to me and even read all my essays and application form and was just so supportive and helpful. People like that are unfortunately quite rare in life but I never forgot her. Still e-mail her sometimes. I think she works in leadership training or something now (still for the ambulance service though). Really lovely woman
