See, what I don't understand is that there's apparently different sub-genres of EDM... and they all sound pretty similar to me. They all seem generic and just don't get my spirit a' vibratin'. I plan to go to some EDM gatherings of some sort soon since my best friend is real into them... but I hope we take MDMA or some stim over LSD. I don't personally believe L and EDM go together.

To be fair, you probably haven't heard actual really good EDM (and goddamn I hate that term). Sub-genres of electronic are so different it's not even funny, although they're not sub-genres anymore. You have Ambient/Downtempo, Drum N Bass, Jungle, Electro, Electronica, Hardcore, Hardstyle, House, IDM, Techno, Trance, and Garage as your main genres. Then once you get into those, there's just sooo many sub-genres. Some are very different than each other, and then sometimes you have a genre that's defined pretty much just by a specific sound the bassline is, or just by the way the snare or hi hat rhythm is "lined up" with the bassline. In addition, Jungle and DnB are very similar anyways, to the point that someone without listening to much of either would have a hard time distinguishing between the two, myself included. Techno and House are very similar in structure, except that Techno as a whole is more massive, deeper, darker, etc. And of course you have your mixes like Electro House.

IMO the "best" genres as a whole are House, Techno, and Trance. Although I am very partial to Ambient, IDM, Garage, and Jungle/DnB (gotta be in the mood).

House is what started it all, has always been the biggest, and will always be the biggest, for good reason. House music has a feeling to it, an inert danciness and groove that can never be replicated. There's sooo many sub-genres and sooo much music out there it's ridiculous. So, it's the obvious example (also, not doing this in order of what sub-genres I like, or what's best, just what I can easily and quickly demonstrate):

First off because it's a perfect example of a sub-genre being defined by one sound: Future House. This sound right here: Tchami, Oliver Heldens. This is blowing up right now, but IMO, could run into a quick death if the sound isn't expanded on and used as more than a way to have a intro>drop>breakdown>drop (basically, formulaic) song where people don't mind because the sound is so cool.

Deep House is set to be the next "EDM" fad in the US, taking over the shit genre that is trap. As used now, it's a term for the sound of the bassline, but used to be used for soulful, jazzy, "deep" house. Modern connotation heard here: Maya Jane Coles, Eats Everything, B.G. Baarregaard and then in terms of the sound about to go mainstream, Amtrac, which while getting close to epitomizing the emerging sound, is a great track, and Amtrac is actually a top notch producer (couldn't associated his name with mainstream without a caveat)

Acid House, defined by this song pretty much, synth from a TB-303 synth: Phuture

Electro House (which I don't really like or know, but this is perfect): some rando mix

Festival/Big Room House (pretty recent, also shit because of how it's all the same): Martin Garrix

Now, what I like to generally call soulful love everything and everyone in the original spirit of house, house: Oliver $ / Jimi Jules, Ben Pearce, https://soundcloud.com/ampm-live/am2pm-my-feelin-preview(this one has a bassline like you'd associate with modern deep house, but the heavy use of hi-hats, the vocals, and a couple other things would bar me from calling it deep house, dh is really an overplayed generalized term at this point anyways). But really, this category I have in my head is made up of good ole regular house, jackin house, chicago house, etc. basically anything with the late 80's-90s feel) Oh and here's some OG house to give you an idea of where it all came from: Ecstacy, Global Communication

It's hard to enjoy without dancing if you don't have a love for it. Find some video of people dancing to house music like this Doncaster Warehouse tribute video. There's no "way" to dance to house music except however your body decides it feels best to move to the 4x4 rhythm.

It really is a beautiful thing to be in a club or at a stage at a festival dancing your ass off like there's no tomorrow, completely surrounded by people doing the same, loving life, loving you, everyone together basically. I don't think it's possible for the communal feeling to be replicated by any other type of music to be honest (and that's from someone who has a deep appreciation for psychedelic and otherwise groovy rock) simply because you're literally, physically, in sync and in tune with everyone around you and releasing natural endorphins because of it. It's a bonding experience for sure.

So yes, I love house. Yes, I just spent 1.5 hours on this post. And yes, I will cry if no-one that doesn't know about electronic music takes the time to listen to the differences in just house alone with the links I shared.

<3

I'm into a lot of music, rock/blues being my favorite in general, but like, for example, I saw Beats Antique live recenly and ity was one of the best things I've ever experienced, it was incredible. Saw Pish recently and that blew me away. I love Bluegrass, and classical music, and just all kinds of music, if it's good. And you GOTS to love the funk!

Damn Xorkoth, I'd totally pay to see y'all jam at a festival! I'm loving it! Is there any chance you could send me links with 320kbps mp3s or .wavs? I'd like to squirrel them away for my next LSD trip :P

Maybe, well, my friend is going to post it to SoundCloud at some point, I can get the link there when he does. Thanks. :)

Is this what everyone is into now?

I realize PD represents a very small segment of society... but I don't vibe with almost ANY of the music tastes here. It makes me feel alone sometimes, like if I was ever able to find a good psychedelic community in real life, they'd just wana bump electronic edm type stuff... psytrance... whatever they call it these days. I feel so old sometimes, when I know I'm younger than many of the people on here who rave about the electronica.

/rant

I feel you on that sometimes. I dunno, there's good music in every genre. I used to dislike a bunch of genres but the issue is that there is a lot of crap coming out commercially so you have to sift through that.

To say lsd and electronic dance music doesn't seem to go hand in hand is insane. Well, I guess it all depends what you fancy. Psytrance is love on any psychedelic. I was in peace sitting in the middle of the woods while tripping and listening to psytrance at the silent disco. I can't even explain the way I felt, but it was beautiful. I went somewhere faraway. However, that was at a festival. Festivals and psychedelics. Clubs and stimulants.

/at 240.
Anyways, I shall be out of here

Don't you mean festivals and everything lol

I listened to a few of those songs and i'm still not positive what deep house is. Mr. Carmack's genre is deep future lollllllllllll

I'm about to take like 5 dabs and go into a thc coma, it's gonna be radical %)

DEEP FUTURE RIGHT HERE FOLKS

but forreal mr. carmack deserves his own genre.

something about house sounds like it was made by a DJ rather than a musician to me a lot of the time, not sure exactly what makes it sound like that but that's just the feel I get haha.

got a 3.75GPA this semester at school, but the closest college is 60 miles away and i can't afford to keep commuting there twice a week on a part time pay check. barely anything for work here in the middle of nowhere, don't think i can find a job lucrative enough to allow me to afford to commute that much. so i'm going back to full time at the factory, and hoping to save enough money that i can move closer to school for next fall. hating my life, probably going to be a really shitty winter here in michigan. debating suicide but that never worked before. drunk and posting in PD social when i should be posting in The Dark Side. oh well, at least i'm not bemoaning in The Lounge.

theres a lot of crazy ways to get money on your own by doing shit online, for instance one of my friends buys limited edition clothing as soon as it comes out then he sells them on ebay when they're sold out and he manages to make a couple hundred a month doing this. He mainly buys "Supreme" and "Stussy" stuff and shoes and shit, but he claims he even quit his job because he was making enough steady money with clothes

also dude I'll never be able to contemplate suicide so long as I can go to music festivals and feel free and/or experience a 150,000 watt sound system on my psychotropic cocktail of choice.

theres also this which could prove to be therapeutic for just about anybody in your situation ;)

Sorry for the huge quote lol....had to find a way to get back to this tomorrow so I can read it at work! :)

Go to college. There are tons of scholarships out there - do a google search, lots of companies use scholarships as a write off. Many times, you just have to write a short essay and they will throw you a few grand toward tuition.Take loans, do whatever it takes, do not let your mind go to waste in a factory. A 3.75 is no joke, I had a 3.1 in high school and I grew up to be a lawyer. Imagine what you could do with that 3.75.

That sucks dude.....but....how and why in the name of fuck did your pill come anywhere near the sink?!!?

It's like crashing your car into your TV....why were you driving in the living room mang?

I was poppin it in the bathroom right. It was already broken in half but i wanted to take 3/4 right.
hard pressed as shit, so i was using scissors to attempt to cut the pill up when bang it went flying into the sink and down the drain :(
Pure md is too chill if you ask me.
In the future when im at parties im mot rolling without speed. I get less sedated off of L mane.

i was referring to college btw. i graduated high school in 2004. this is my second go-round at college. (partied too hard the first time) now no one wants to give me loans since i've got so much in outstanding loans already, and no degree to show for it. i have been looking at scholarships, hopefully i land a good one.

I get quite sedated from pure MDMA too. But one of my favorite combos in the world is MXE + MDMA... if you take the MXE first, it makes the MDMA WAY more potent (like I usually take 200mg+ of MDMA but I have never taken more than 80mg with MXE), and it makes it more energetic, more mentally active, and even more blissful.

nah in the future mane
i will refuse to take MD without speed from now on
lesson learned
i thought that the reason i always get floored since i was about 18 (not when i first started...) was taking too much
evidently this is not the case
i think my use of stimulants is what did it for me
cause i dont get stimulant side effects that terrible either (eg. jaw clenching and all that noise), when i used to off of regular amph even, but then tolerance happened and i dont get them off of anything anymore it seems like
now we flush to remove the MDMA in case i get drug tested tomorrow
already drank one 64oz cranberry juice, about to start on a 2nd one
read in a NIDA study with methamphetamine that urinary PH has a profound effect on excretion of methamphetamine, if your urine is basified by drinkign a solution of baking soda, only 1% of a dose of methamphetamine will be excreted in 24 or 48 hours (dont remember), but if you acidify your urine, 90% will be excreted
meaning the day of you getting tested, you want to basify your system with baking soda, before that you want to flush with something acidic to basically pull the amphetamines out of you
MDMA being an amphetamine (and thus being slightly basic) should behave the same way.

I guess it all depends on what I'm after..
All I know is that the last time I took it and melted into the couch with the lsd it couldn't have been more perfect with the Kevin Barnes serenading me into dream worlds.
