Here we go... I'm new here, and I'm done.

Yes that is totally false.

EDIT: You are already physically dependent on opiates. Subs work on the same opiate receptors and this is why they prevent you from going into withdrawals. The process of detoxification is stopping useing the substance you are dependent on so it is cleared from your system and then allowing your system to readjust back to normal.

You are taking the suboxone. The suboxone has a higher affinity for the opiate receptors and long since knocked off any of the oxy you have in your system. You will now be detoxing from the subs. This will take about two weeks from your last dose. This is because it takes ten days for the body to clear that drug from your system. As it slowly clears it from your system you will go into stronger and stronger acute withdrawal. Once it is clear from your system your system will take like three or four days to regulate back to some semblance of homeostasis.

You should start to feal better about two weeks after your last dose.

This is why I dont think subs are a good thing for detoxing. First you have to wait untill your in strong withdrawal to start taking them. The detox off oxy is six or seven days. So by the time people can take the subs they are already 1/6 the way through the oxy tunnel. Then they take the suboxone which turns what would have been five more days into two weeks. Then if they choose to do a short taper they add even more days of acutes on to the two weeks and will recieve little or no benefit from the taper.

Given the dose you were at for oxy you will likely have some Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome symptoms. Here is some information on PAWS for you to look through if you desire.

If these come on they come on after the acutes are over.

I put in a call to my PCP today and asked if he could give me something for RLS and anxiety/HBP. Waiting for a call back. Still feeling pretty normal, just a touch of anxiety but no physical symptoms so that's good. 5 days clean from oxy!

Doc called me in a prescription for Neurontin. No clonidine. I also have access to Xanax (which I hate but I can take it if I have to... 1mg gives me a hangover). Should these two, with my Wellbutrin, Celebrex and prednisone be enough for any WDs I experience as I taper off these Subs?

I think now you have a strong line up prepared. I dont think taking Wellbutrin with clonodine would have been a good idea anyway. I think you will do well with these medications. Please keep in mind that you will likely still have symptoms, but these medications should help out a great deal. If you feal comfortable can you share what the dose and instructions are for the neurontin?

I would not include the propranolol without having a physician review your medications and prescribe it.

Great work on getting all your ducks in a row for this:D

So I hope you pass through tomorow still feeling good. This will mean that the lower dose of bupe will hold you well. Your doing great!!

neurontin helps a lot with mild withdrawals... propanalol is a heart med and I agree, I wouldn't feel comfortable telling someone to take it without talking to their doctor :/

You're doing great :) You're inspiring me (and other things are as well) to speed up my sub taper. I just want to get off this stuff. I feel like stretching it out is counter productive, for me at least. I get so depressed and have so much anxiety and self doubt. I just want to get through it and over it and feel normal again.

@Camaro,
Congratulations for your initiative! Is seems you are making this possible and this is always great to hear.
Wish all the luck to you! Keep up with the good work, as they all say!:)

Camerochick I've been where you are and now off all opiates, it can be done, it's tough but worth it.

Yep!!

Yes since it´s very individualized and for Blood Pressure, right?

Thank you guys for your encouragement and help.

Day 6, still no noticible physical symptoms. A few mental ones but nothing horrible. Mostly just missing the instant pain relief and the euphoria and focus that came with it. Carrying on with work.

Hello! Woke up a bit sweaty this morning. Took 1mg sub, tomorrow I go to .5. Sciatic nerve pain pretty bad today but beyond that, again, no noticible WDs, just the psychological stuff of really wanting an opiate to kill this pain!

I was going to eliminate the skipping days since you said it doesn't really seem beneficial on a short taper. Thoughts?

I think the hardest part is going to be the craving for one when I'm hurting, honestly. And according to an MD friend of mine I could technically take one about every 3 days or so, a couple a week if the pain is really bad, and not get physically dependent again, but the mental part will make it easy for me to slip back into the habit of taking them all the time if i did start back out just taking even just one or two a week, since I am basically in pain all the time. I don't know if i am strong enough to be an occasional user. I think that will be the biggest battle for me. The pain part. Not sure how to handle that. :-/

Now that your getting off the opiates your pain response will be greatly exaggerate untill its able to reset. If you are able to fully detox and stay off the opiates for six months or so your pain will greatly decrease over that time. Long term opiate therapy for pain often ends up causing much greater pain then it ever relieved.

Checking in. Still here, still making it on my reduced dosage. One thing I've noticed that is rather embarassing is that I've had to get some miralax and am really hoping it works. Because I am having issues in that department. Sciatic pain continues. Dr. Changed me from celebrex to prescription Naproxen after the steroids seemed to help my back a bit. He told me when that sciatic nerve acts up to take a gabapentin.
