The Ferguson thread / additional race discussion

You truly have no idea how it is in the inner-cities of America.

Oh please educate us to the horrors of the inner city!

Lol, wtf is wrong with you. In all my years in what was once known as the black Wall Street of America (before one of the worst race riots in American history where ignorant whites burned their neighborhoods to the ground) I never once had any problems with violence. The only problem I had was with the systematic under funding of infrastructure and education leading to a vicious cycle which is incredibly hard to escape. How are poorly educated, ignorant parents supposed to raise kids with a broader perspective when there is no one to show them how, or if they are never home because they have to work three minimum wage jobs to put food on the table, or if there is no mechanism in place to break the cycle. The people are by and large good people, but often misguided and jaded.

The delicious smell of BBQ in the morning air only goes so far in soothing an aching heart.

What would tell me if I've said I've had a gun stuck to my head before, been jumped up, got into confrontations with someone yelling gang slogans who gets on their cell phone telling me their calling their "homeboys over"? Had a nice pair of Bose headphones, and had a little 10 year old black kid walk up behind me and yank them breaking them thinking he'd actually be able to get them off my head in one piece. I don't bother with an of these anecdotes because they really don't mean much.

I think there's alot of people that might live in diverse areas but have no idea how things are in actual hoods, especially people in Canada or Europe. Just turn on your local news if you live in a major metropolitan area, more than likely you will see crime concentrated in a few areas and a very disproportionate amount of it committed by the same demographic.

I would say you must have been looking for trouble because I grew up in and around some of the nastiest hoods here in NYC and have been robbed once, by someone else that was a white dude. I've been in fights but those were my own doing, been able to diffuse every single other confrontation. Maybe you just don't know how to act in the hood? If you go there talking some of the bullshit you spit here it's no wonder you got fucked with lol. As a white person, i've actually been fucked with more by other white people in trailer park type neighborhoods than I have been by black people in the hood. Go figure.

As far as crime concentration, I hope you aren't including drug crime in that considering most everyone here doesn't have a problem with people using drugs, yourself included I imagine. (which i believe was probably the reason you were in the hood to begin with)

Just curious, what "gang slogans" were they yelling at you?

I would tell you that you still haven't stated anything about a residence in a poor inner city neighborhood.

If you had all that happen to you id say more then likely it has something to do with your social skills. And i think places where people regularly get shot every fucking weekend and you have SWAT teams going over the fence next door would count as actual ghettos so i think we do have them here in Canada. According to some moron who writes for the Globe and Mail aka the Mop and Pail (which actually resembles the Daily Fail only it doesn't suck quite as much) i in fact live in the worlds most scenic rural ghetto 8) . What a yuppie jesus christ. I mean it might be a poor place and we might have loads of drugs but for the amount of drugs here we get fuck all drug related violence really. Especially compared to many western Canadian cities where meth, crack and booze fueled mayhem is quite common. In fact in those places it's mostly the same people who commit the same crimes there as well because they fucking live there.

Nice victim shaming there bujddy. I'm sure this white guy in St. Louis that got beat to death with a hammer had bad social skills too. You won't be saying anything of the sort about the Gentle Giant he was just a fun-loving guy shot to death because he was Black right?

One second your saying Canada has plenty of Blacks and you are safe, the next you are talking about shootings and SWAT teams. Canada is about as ghetto as Switzerland if you ask me. Canada as a whole has about as many murders as Chicago alone on a typical year.

I have lived in Miami, lived in a city about 10 minutes from Oakland, Chicago.

None of the areas I ever lived in would I classify as poor inner city areas but to make money sometimes you have to venture into the inner-city. I would ride around with my friend while he fixed parking meters in the worst areas of Chicago, and was working for my uncle for a while when he was renting out a few buildings in some rough neighborhoods would regularly have tenants missing multiple months of rent, having felons living there when they didn't declare that on the leasing agreement, have pets when they weren't supposed to, I could go on. Actually living in this shit areas I have not, and never will.

Bunch of people sitting on their steps drinking beer at all hours of the day, hanging out in front of the gas stations the liqour store, go to the library and it's a ghost town, it's all a choice of what you do in your free time. You ever listen to urban radio? Half of the time they that rap crap talk about drug dealing and killing people, other half of the time it's r&b music a perfect soundtrack to concieve an illegitimate child with your third or fourth "baby mama".

Umm not victim shaming but more like how the fuck can you get into that kinda trouble that often in your case without basically being a fucking shit disturber.

And this was not a Black neighborhood that i lived in where shootings, the sound of cop choppers and everything else was common. That was a mostly white Canadians, Newfoundlander's like me, Natives and a mixed hood with basically no blacks being stupid enough to live in the dump. If you think there's no ghetto's in Canada go walk through Abbotsfield in Edmonton at night by yourself see if that changes your mind. I'm sure with a attitude like yours you wouldn't get in any trouble at all 8)

Bah, whatever. I can't tell whether people are being serious or not in this section anymore. I find it a bit irritating tho when what are imo worthwhile articles to read whether or not you agree with them just get ignored or reduced down to a frivolous quip that doesn't do anything for the conversation. Like "stopped reading after (insert news source here)". Not saying that someone should agree but at least take the time to read the fucking thing before you just write something off.

They dont know either. When someone gets called out or proven wrong then its, oh Im joking or Im trolling, duh. I agree its pretty annoying.

Some might not agree with what he says but the more I see his posts, the more I think he isnt racist at all. Their just isnt that hateful, aggressive tone that somebody who is actually racist has. I here more hate from bit pattern directed at him then anything ive seen him post. Like somebody said, he says things that most people think but are to afraid to say and I can respect that especially during times like today. We all are judgmental in someway with members of society. It something you cant help. I dont think he out right hates groups of people purely on skin color.
"I just tend to prefer the white person over the black most of the time. If there is a white or black working a register at a checkout I usually try to choose the white. I feel more at ease around them."

real tolerant.

I won't apologize alasdair. I have nothing to apologize for. They are not my closest tribe. They arent with my roots, quite the same.

Now why don't you set an example as admin of the forum and write something provoking of good discussion?

Its amazing that exercising clear preference for your own family and those closest to you is 'intolerance' and something to be attacked anymore. Fuck off to that- I don't want it.

I knew it. ;)

I, on the other have, had my last apartment in a poor inner city neighborhood (hey, I like cheap rents). It was fine. Some disturbing front-page crime stories, some entertaining experiences, but mostly pretty mundane. Neighbors were an entertaining mix.

I have friends, most of them white, who live in poor neighborhoods. I have no problems visiting with them. No fear for my life. Again, some entertaining stories, but mostly pretty mundane.

If you have a lick of common sense, it's fine. Most people just want to live their lives and not cause trouble, rich or poor.

The black vs. white tension definitely isn't the same across all parts of the US. I have lived in the South, and it was not possible to avoid the racism there. It's just a fact of life in the South that a certain percentage of both blacks and whites literally hate each other based on the color of their skin. I've only been in St. Louis briefly, but it is not that far from Memphis and feels pretty similar. I think it's a fair guess then that there is more racial tension there than in other cities further from the South.

I hate to tell you but the clan system went out with feudalism. Talk about being backwards in your way of thinking jesus christ.

As well, I find among them to be the most attractive people on Earth. Go ahead and call me a backward thinking racist for that. :)
