Two men take litre of pure methadone

A STOLEN bottle of pure methadone left one man dead and another in hospital, a court has heard.

The one-litre bottle, allegedly nabbed from a Nova Pharmacy in Ballarat on November 14, was divvied up and consumed by two men over a disastrous two-day period.

A third man, Darcy Kroezen, 25, applied for bail at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on Tuesday after being charged with possession of half a litre of methadone, however he was not charged with stealing the bottle.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Clint Prebble told the court a man, who was found unresponsive at a Windermere Street address on November 15, was put on life support at the Ballarat Health Service’s Base Hospital after a methadone overdose.

The man later died in hospital on November 19.

Senior Constable Prebble said the deceased man’s housemate told police on November 21 the man had consumed four to five days’ worth of methadone after allegedly receiving the opioid from a man called “Tim”.

The court heard how another man, Tim Rodger, 24, allegedly entered the Nova pharmacy on November 14 and stole an undiluted bottle of methadone.

Later that day Rodger was admitted to Ballarat Health Service’s Base Hospital after suffering an overdose.

Rodger, who has been charged with theft and possess buprenorphine (undiluted methadone), later discharged himself from hospital.


The court heard police received an anonymous tip-off on November 20

and searched Kroezen’s Sebastopol home the next day, finding 500 millilitres of methadone, 10 grams of cannabis and cash.

Kroezen’s defence lawyer, Jeremy Harper, said his client wasn’t responsible for the “tragic” story.

“He (Kroezen) has never met the deceased man,” he said.

Mr Harper said Kroezen, who was aware Rodger had allegedly stolen the methadone, rang Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital to explain what substance Rodger had taken.

Kroezen, who was also charged with possessing cannabis and breach of bail conditions, was granted bail by magistrate Cynthia Toose.

Police chose not to oppose the bail application and Kroezen was ordered to reappear at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on November 27.

Rodger will appear at the Ballarat Magistrates Court on February 2.

1 ml = 10 mg
1 lt = 1000 mg

I dont know how much total methadone is in a liter however, the concentration is fairly high. I know from experience that 90mg of methadone is a pretty small amount of liquid. Maybe 10 or 15 ml.
 
Oh my God, are you serious?!

That one liter bottle contains (or contained) a total amount of 10,000mg / 10 grams of Methadone HCL in liquid form (two formulations: (1) Methadose Orange Flavored and (2) Unflavored/Sugar-Free for Diabetics).

Damn... So over two days they each ingested up to 5,000 freakin' milligrams (or 5g) of Methadose Oral Concentrate (Methadone Hydrochloride [oral concentrate USP])?! I'm sorry, but... what the fuck did they think was gonna happen to them? That's a death sentence in a bottle is what it is.

I mean, the highest dosage I've ever been on was 260mg daily for about a year. And combined with 0.5mg of Xanax (Alprazolam) TID (3 times daily), I was snoring extremely loudly/abnormally according to whenever friends and/or family members were present in my bungalow and heard me.

And the highest MMT Methadone dosage I've ever seen anyone consistently ingest was 650mg daily. These reckless morons apparently each drank close to FOUR times that amount for two days. Don't mind me, I'm just shocked, that's all.

I mean, shit - I feel sorry and all for someone dying from an opioid overdose, however, such extreme, reckless stupidity undermines our efforts to end this unjust war on (certain) drugs, and, obviously has resulted in a Darwin Award for at least one of them.

Again, 2.5g a day... I can't imagine what that would feel like, and I don't think I ever want to.

Would the administration of Naloxone in a timely manner even make a difference in such an extreme case?

That is an absolutely MASSIVE dose of what is a potent µ-opioid agonist in medical use by humanity.

In fact, this is by far the highest dosage I've ever read about. Unbelievable /SMH
 
This is the reason they had to start locking up the trash at my old clinic. People were stealing the trash and licking all the 'empty' cups and some idiot OD'd from them.
 
Yea it would take an ENORMOUS amount of naloxone or any opioid antagonist to reverse an OD from such an incredibly stupid dose of methadone. On top of that it would have to be readministered (the godly high dose of opioid antagonist I mean) like every 5-15min. It might have been possible for them to survive if they had been administered such a regiment of opioid antagonist directly or very shortly after ingestion, but considering they almost certainly had to wait long enough for someone to notice they were ODing and emergency services, their chances for survival were basically nill. Plus along with the opioid antagonist they almost certainly would have had to be given regular life saving emergency measures that would only normally be required during the initial stabilization of a patient presenting with an opioid OD.

Wow, just wow. I don't even think I'd want to have 10,000.00mg of methadone in my possession - and if I did I'd handle it in mother fucking safety gear. And I have a sizeable tolerance to the stuff!

I wouldn't mind have some extra Methadone stored in one of my medication lock-boxes for a rainy day, but definitely not 10 grams of the stuff in concentrated liquid form. Even a spill of 1/20th (50ml) of such a bottle could be fatal if somehow ingested by an opioid naive individual.

By the way, who knows how much of the "liquid handcuffs" they would have ingested if they had gotten their hands on the 15 liter bottle of Methadose, which equals 150 grams of Methadone HCL. Could probably kill a pod of blue whales with that amount.

Yeah I saw those at my clinic as well. Believe the brand name is Metadol, but I'm not certain.
 
I refuse to believe this is anything but a suicide. I just don't believe someone could be that stupid to think that's a reasonable dose.
 
I often thought it would be easy to steal one of these from the UPS man during delivery to a my old clinic. Or even easier if you are the UPS man.
He just puts a case of it on a hand truck and hauls it in by himself. Seems like the type of thing that should be delivered in an armored truck or something.

I completely believe you man. My clinic may be getting their Methadone from both Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, and, whoever it is that makes a Methadone-MMT formulation known as Metadol. Perhaps Methadose isn't available in Canada as a 10mg/ml formulation, but I'm not certain.

Actually, I'm not positively certain why they bother getting their "liquid handcuffs" from two separate pharmaceutical companies. If it's not due to availability, then perhaps cost?

Apparently there's a shitload of money to be made for anyone who happens to own a MMT clinic - at least in Ontario, Canada. Yep... they've been popping up all over the area lately, and local residents here are really pissed off because of it according to the newspaper articles I've read.

However, since the MMT clinics are not breaking any laws, there's nothing that the residents can do, so they call up the media and continue to bitch and moan.

Mostly, they complain about the noise, but the MMT clinics' operating hours around here are not unreasonable. On weekdays, most of them open up at 8am and close at 5pm. And on weekends, they're open from 9am - 12pm. It's not like people are there in the wee hours of the morning. And if there does happen to be anyone on the property when it's not open, the cops quickly show up and either get them to go home or to a shelter; or, if it turns into a habit for anyone, they are arrested for trespassing.

Edit - The other thing I've noticed people bitching about regarding the MMT clinics is that they're afraid of being around us.

Personally, I think they have little to fear from us - we are there because we're trying to get back to functioning as normal as possible. And by "normal," I mean that we're trying to get off of the heroin and the lifestyle that's usually associated with such a long term and expensive habit in an era of oppression and discrimination towards street drug users in general.

We mean no harm, no disrespect, no intent to victimize anyone. We're just trying to get back to our lives as it was before the long term Heroin (or other potent opioid analgesic) habit. And we're trying to do this by way of using a substitute for the Heroin so that we hopefully don't become violently ill, nor crave using again whatsoever.

Methadone / MMT saved my life. I know it's a band aid effect, but it sure as hell beats the alternative, which I've tried countless times unsuccessfully. And while I won't consider myself to be "clean" since I'm on the Methadone, at least I haven't used Smack - or other opioids - for a couple of years now, nor am I craving any. So I feel that the benefits have greatly outweighed the risks, and I'm sure others feel the same way.

highest dose I've done is prolly like 80-100 mgs.
shit last so long and fucKS me up high doses no idea why they didn't call 911 them selves how would you not realize your screwed..

We also get the Mali ten mgs per 1 ml pink don't think it's flavored or anything pink liquid. Boise idaho

wouldn't one litre of mdone be 1000mg? ie 1ml = 1mg
i know you can get more concentrated mdone. 10mg=1ml
is there anyone out there getting the 10mg=1ml stuff in a mmt setting. never heard of it in my part of uk.
It would be really dangerous having the different strengths being widely dispensed with all the diverting going on. Imagine drinking 50 ml of the 10mg=1ml stuff

I don't see why that would be any more dangerous then every other drug. All drugs come in different strengths, street drugs come in a complete mystery dose.

The more concentrated bottles would be used to make a more dilute strength for patients.

But fuck a liter of Mdone is a absurd amount. Enough to kill ATLEAST 4-7 ppl that doesn't have any opiate tolerance. Wonder if they had any benzos in there system to. Bet they didn't even have a oral syringe, which is a must have with liquid methadone in my experience.
