The coffee apprecation thread

I remember buying Turkish coffee by accident once, from the local shop. It was the only ground coffee I could spot, and through my ignorance I bought it, expecting it to be more or less exactly the same thing.

Needless to say, I was quite surprised the next morning.

I think 'proper' Turkish/Greek coffee definitely has a distinctly different smell and taste but in my quest to try and make authentic, I have imported Turkish coffee but most of the stuff I have been reading has said any lightly-medium roasted extra extra fine milled fresh coffee will do..apparently if Iever master the technique you are effectively re-roasting it on a slow heat again..so it's double roasted and that's why the richer makes can't be used...yes this really is how I often spend part of my days recently....obsessing over perfect Turkish coffee and spending hours reading up about it..it's umm a hobby :D

I'm usually a espresso + 1 sugar man. Ive got a nespresso machine at home which is probably as good as you are going to get without putting in any effort to learn how to prepare coffee properly.

Not really a fan of instant, filter or coffee from a press as the flavour and texture is all wrong.

Seeing people pay more than a pint of beer for a coffee then drinking it out of a cardboard cup drives me up the wall. :!

I love coffee. Caffè macchiato is probably my favourite out and about fix. I hate the soullessness of the big chain coffee places but luckily a few miles away is the most brilliant independent coffee shop that beats any costa or starbucks. I have pretty much every machine and every conceivable grinder and hob coffee maker available.
Some of my family live mostly in Italy so until recently my favourite coffee was made on the gas hob in an Italian Moka pot. Their local equivalent supermarket to say Asda has this incredible ground medium roast ground fresh coffee for about £!.40 a bag they bring me about ten bags back whenever they come over.

The Italians obviously take their coffee very seriously it is intrinsic to their culture. I once ordered a cappuccino after 10am in a coffee bar in Italy with some friends THE HORROR -it is seen as extremely wrong..if you order a cappuccino or similar after lunch you may as well have just shat on an Italians shoe..they are totally disgusted..something to do with digestion.

I have nothing against instant coffee but there are only very few I like..unless it's 'hospital coffee' made by my ex nurse 90 year old Gran with hot milk and nescafe!

But this bloody Turkish/Greek coffee is proving a nightmare to make...I shall await the proper pan thingy a briki? which should aid the foam on the top and the settlement of the coffee sediment....Oh yes I take coffee very seriously indeed. =D

LOL that post made me chuckle. So what coffee are you meant to order after 10 am? Encase I ever go to Itsly?

Are cafe machines, expensive? I may try making myself the non instant type out of curiosity.

I'm a major Cafe Nero fan! And I love caramel tate.

Ive been drinking alot more coffee recently. I think its from being in croatia recently when i drank it more which in turn increased how many rollies i smoked. Im now a heavy smoker / caffeine addict when i would have normally been more of a weed and tea sort of guy. Even getting headaches and a horrible lethargic feeling without it. Might start to cut back then transfer back to green tea.

I used to fucking hate coffee, but having started a new job that's got me up at 6.45am to go pick a van up to drive another hour to be on my feet janitoring it up for nine hours then another drive back I am worshiping the free espressos the company have. Get in at 9am, double shot, BOOM, good for a few hours. Repeat as needed.

I am glad they have a bathroom that no one ever uses and that only I have a key for tho cos damn not used to that much coffee.

Coffee works better for me than any caffeine pill, probably because caffeine is more easily absorbed in solution than it is in a solid - plus, binder/filler gunk in caffeine pills probably inhibits absorption, too. I love coffee. I had some this morning and, it being caffeinated, it calmed down my runny nose.

Huh, never thought of it doing that for yer nose but thinking about it makes sense. I gotta say I've always loved the taste and smell of good coffee, I just never liked what it does to my insides and I always tend to overdo it and end up jittery. Doesn't seem to happen when ya working tho. Caffeine pills are one I'll go to occasionally just to keep awake if I need but I don't really like em.

Any of you drink Nescafe alta rica?

I noticed this on the packaging when i was stoned, it says "The bold, intense one" then has a coffee bean split in half underneath it that resembles a vag. Some good subliminal advertising there

No, I'm currently drinking Taylor's and Lavazza.

Currently grabbing a cup of coffee in between stressful phone calls to friends regarding what we're going to do with ourselves today.
