Date-rape drugs may not be as prevalent as you think

The discovery of a 16-year-old girl at a Halloween party in Quebec who was found naked with traces of the date-rape drug GHB in her bloodstream has renewed concerns about the prevalence of these incapacitating substances.

The incident occurred at the Spookland Halloween party at Mont Cascades Ski Resort & Water Park in Cantley, Que., just north of Ottawa, on Friday. In total, six girls and three boys were taken to hospital.

While police continue to investigate the incident, one partygoer told CBC News that someone was handing out pills on her bus as she was heading to the event.

^well back in the day I'd do it in a heart beat, although I would probably try to test it first if I didn't know the person at all.

Although I too am delighted to see this on the CBC, in a way I'm stumped. The most common date rape drug is available, and cheap to boot, at nearly any corner store across the country...

All this date rape bullshit. Little teenie girls get totally wasted because they cant handle alcohol or do stupidly other drugs while drunk, finally passing out. In the End they present themselves as victims and lie that they were drugged without there knowledge. Not so say that there are some real victims around, but i guess most just made it up, so that they dont have to be responsible for their actings. Also i dont know how this could work at parties. I mean when the girl is at your house, it can easily be raped. But if a girl gets drugged up in a Club or so you have to find some place and transport her there. At least were i am from its not normal that a random guy coul take away a passed out girl. There would always be people around

GHB and rohypnol are central nervous system depressants that are odourless and flavourless, which means they can be added to an alcoholic drink without being detected.

Another common drug is ketamine, which is used by veterinarians to anesthetize animals.

Seriously? Anyone who's taken GHB can tell you it has an incredibly strong and distinctive taste/odor (it also only lasts an hour or two), and rohypnol is a fucking pill, if you added it to a drink there'd be 150 - 200mg of binders in the bottom of the cup, pretty hard to miss. Ketamine also has a distinctive taste and is only mildly active when taken orally, meaning you'd need to pour hundreds of mg into the drink.

Bloody hell, do these people do any research?

Always used to last at least a few hours in my experience, also I would associate a strong taste and odor with gbl rather ghb itself.

Yea GHB is most def noticeable, that salty flavour and all, but mixed with a drink like the Salty Dog (salt mixed with grapefruit juice @ vodca - on it's own super yummy!) would make it much harder to detect ime.

On the other hand, GBL is much more obvious in terms of its flavour. You'd have to get your victim super drunk 'n out of it before they'd be dumb enough to drink something that tasted so suspicious... Just my 2$

As kids learn in college parties, ethanol and alcohol is the BEST, MOST Effective date rape drug, especially when the individual in question has little tolerance to it or also is taking/given extra blackout inducing drugs like Soma, Neurontin, Lyrica, any short acting benzo or z-drug and their like.
