Oh, yeah, true.. liking twee shit like Camera Obscura is about as NQ as you can get, I guess. Thankfully I never claim to have good music taste. =D

Nor do I. Best way.

And it was a very, very hipster ex of mine who introduced me to Camera Obscura. Within months I had her rolling joints and listening to Zeppelin. She reverted to hipsterism a few years down the line though.

Now if we're talking about the Nico album of the same name...

Sublime

It's been on the cards a long time, but I thought it was time I dedicated a post to Sublime... (not forgetting Lou Dog)

sublime-1.jpg

As you all know, Sublime is a Californian band who were part of the third wave ska revival. That term originated with them & bands like No Doubt, Reel Big Fish who came out of none other than Orange County. (apparently it's not just spoilt rich kids who live there...) Their career as a band was cut short by the death of Bradley Nowell in 1996 when he OD'd on heroin. Interestingly, they didn't have commercial success until 2 months after his death with the posthumous release of their third album. Anyway, enough blurb.... here's some music:

Sublime - Greatest Hits ... fitting song title to start it all off. =D

Sublime - What I Got ... I'm sure you've all heard this if nothing else. Had it as my ring tone for many years now. :D

Sublime - Date Rape ... great lyrics, I think I'll go put them in the relevant thread in a second. We actually had a mosh pit to this song when I saw Sublime with Rome back in 2010 I think.

Sublime - I Saw Red ... amazing song featuring Gwen Stefani.<3

Sublime - Smoke Two Joints - sure this song probably applies for a few of you...certainly reminds me of some good times. ;)

Sublime - Scarlet Begonias

As I alluded to above, the band reformed in 2009 with Rome Ramirez taking on lead vocals/guitar. He's no Bradley Nowells, but I thought he did a pretty good job. I went to see them in their only UK tour date in 2010 at the O2 Shepherds Bush Empire down in London. Great weekend that was just before my birthday.

Sublime with Rome - Panic ... this was released like a month before the rest of the album.

Sublime with Rome - PCH

Sublime with Rome - Take It Or Leave It

Sublime with Rome - Only

There have been some tribute albums to Sublime over the years. Some interesting covers:

Jack Johnson - Badfish Perhaps the best cover <3

No Doubt - DJs ♪ Hello, er, have you heard of a band called Sublime? ♪

Well, I hope that was informative / good listening folks. If you don't like Ska, there is something wrong with you & you need shot. <3

if you like Ska you may be intested in this band, the singer/keyboard player was a friend of mine at school and for a few years aftferwards whilst i remained in that area. A really nice and witty guy, so he was, and probably still is.

Cartoon Violence - Attic

I think this track could have been a fucking huge hit, if given enough exposure at the right time.

Glad to be of service. :)

There are a lot of great local level Ska bands that go touring around the UK MDB... guess there just isn't enough call for mainsteam ska bands.

yeah, i think that CV have made the leap from local level to being part of many European Ska festivals, nights, and other events. I guess it's unfortunate that Ska isnt really mainstream or "in fashion" at the moment.

Who shot Ya? - Notorious B.I.G

I estimate your life expentancy to be something like 41, unless you have the constitution of Lemmy. All these very nasty chemicals you smoke very heavily must be having a devastating effect on your lungs. The good news is that they can self-repair to a remarkable extent if you stop inflicting all this harmfull stuff in vast quantities on them.:\

time to give this another blast, cant go more than a few months without listening to this. Still love it.

The Only Ones - No solution

The Only Ones - Someone who cares

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnDGqVw16GA

and the classic: (though they are all classics imo)

The Only Ones - From Here to Eternity

The Only Ones - The Beast (fantastic heavy instrumental breaks)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNuOSCM9ShQ

One of the guys i knew at Uni showed me how easy most of the solos are to play, i was quite amazed, i could even add them ontop with my own very low skill level. They recently made a comeback, featured on Jools Holland, the guys voice has compltely gone, it was a sorry spectacle. The band also seem to have 'lost it'. I belive the singer is a life long heroin addict, he's all skin and bone, not a pick on him.

Iirc correctly i successfully shoplifted this album "Even Serpents Shine" from Tower Records on a School trip to London. Howvere i did get caught trying to tuck Joe Jackson's "Look Sharp" cassette under my sleave. The title was quite ironic i thought. Needless to say it put even more strain on the already strained relationship i had with my parents at that time. The teacher who bailed me out did the old "either you tell your parents about this i will", it was one of the most unconfortable family meals that i can recall. :o

The B52's - Rock Lobster

Another old favourite. I had a mate at the time who would act out the various sounds and stuff during the track, i dont think ive ver laughed so much, almost to the point of wetting myself. You had to be there i guess. I love the guitar sound they have. And the heavy instumental music breaks.

The B-52's - 6060-842 (With Lyrics)

I love the heavyness of this track. Cobwebs definatley cleared. :)

The B-52's - Lava (1979) {Vinyl Rip}

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0-Qz-aeaU4 Fucking Rocking. <3

The B-52's - Hero Worship

The backing singers were fucking awesome. Shame the main guy died about 20 years ago. I wonder what else they might have produced otherwise.

A more punk souding track

The B-52's - 52 Girls

The B-52's (1979) (FULL ALBUM)
