Just as the title says, why are women more emotional than me? Women hold onto things a lot longer. Plus, i think a good example is how words turn women on more than images. why is this

in a patriarchal society, men are taught to supress and not value their own emotions, and are more typically likely to express their emotions outwardly rather than ruminate or talk about them.

women are more likely to be expected to be submissive and sensitive and 'ladylike' and are statistically more likely to be personality archetypes which have a greater emotional depth.

its all generalisations though, there are plenty of dudes that are more emotional than women and women that are less emotional than some men.

There's actually a science to this. I remember studying this a while back.

Women & Men are indeed wired a little bit different.

Some people here are in favor of society conditioning men to suppress their emotions to. Yeah, that's a variable also.

You should research why people in general are different. Because we all have different genetics. It's not based on gender, there are plenty of males who are more emotional than plenty of females.

I bet you if I had a list of your most favored girls I could turn you into one violent dramatic individual. Without such a list I bet we could share a beer and be the best of friends. In fact I bet we could start out as the best of friends and over a woman you could hate me even bludgeon me and our short time as the best of friends would come to a conclusion.

In fact you questioning their 'over emotion' is kind of a mania and over generalization itself. Proving that if anything you and women are a lot alike.

there is a difference between empathisers and systematizers

but really each person is themselves not a group label. everyone is different, depends on individual

Generally men are more logical than females. Females are generally better at connecting verbally & emotionally.

Men & Women generally have a set of different skills. This is generally speaking.

But we're all individuals also. So, this doesn't mean a man isn't as emotional as the average woman.

There are a ton of men out there that are extremely emotional characters. Emotional as being in "Good or Bad" emotions.

Sometimes I even want to cry when I see a sad scene in a movie :) Then the cultural thing makes me old it back a little...

Women aren't more emotional than men. A woman, as an individual, is just more likely to have an emotion-based personality than a male individual is. You can't forget about people when you look at the grand scheme of things. To quantify it, I recommend looking at demographic studies of personality types - for example, the MBTI shows 50/50 Thinking/Feeling for Males, whereas about 20/80 T/F for Females.

Have read some separate papers about how men tend to be more individualistic/self-preservative and their anxieties are more rooted in paranoia of connection/intimacy, whereas women tend to be the opposite and are socially connected by default, with anxieties stemming from isolation. Thus the emotion thing may also have overlap in the way one connects and empathises with people.

What causes this and why, one could argue is irrelevant. Default answer would be evolutionary biology in regards to behaviour I suppose :P

It isn't are women emotional or not?

It is what is the overriding part of the brain that is primarily used for decision making, some people think based on emotion, others logic. Gender plays a role in this.

I think men and women operate differently but I'm not convinced that women are inherently more emotional than men. Just a stereotype that society perpetuates imo.

In reply to the above, I suggest you try taking estrogen for a few weeks and see what happens.
A transsexual friend told me it was like switching from B/W to Technicolor.
Women are not more emotional it's just that the emotions are more intense.

Men are taught that showing emotions is weak and not manly. Tough guys dont cry. Worst thing any man can do is hold in his emotions and it doesnt take away your manhood. Men and women have the same feelings but are taught to handle them differently. I'm sure there are gender/physical things that also have an effect but my thought and opinion is women are not more emotional, men hold theirs in and suppress them.
