I find that MXE combines incredibly well with every psychedelic I've tried it with. I wouldn't go too high on it, just stick to low to moderate doses of MXE with normal doses of psychedelics.
I agree that MXE pairs quite well with the likes of LSD, 4-AcO-DMT, DOC, βK-2C-B, and 6-MAPB. I also agree with Xorkoth's dosing recommendations. I haven't noticed much, if any, potentiation or synergy, but the two states of mind seem to complement each other quite nicely; of course, YMMV so always start low (and if you plan on redosing MXE it's always a good idea to have all of your doses measured out beforehand). Too much MXE, in my experience, overshadows the psychedelic; again, YMMV.
My preferred time to add the MXE is near the end or after the psychedelic peak, but many seem to advocate leading into the psychedelic trip with an entry dose of MXE so to each their own. I'm purely speculating at this point, but I think the combination of the novel dissociative MXM (aka e-MXE, aka methoxmetamine, aka 3-MeO-2'-OxO-PCM) might be capable of providing more of those potentiating, synergistic effects often reported with ketamine and like those I once loved from combining DXM and LSD. Like I said, though, I have no anecdotal or scientific evidence to back up that claim, so tread with caution in that realm (if I or another don't tread there for you first).
Getting off topic, but on the subject of leading into the psychedelic experience by starting off with another drug, I recently found this quote from PiHKAL #122 MEM (emphasis my own) to be rather interesting:
PiHKAL #122 MEM said:Many of the reports of MEM effects have been with experiments in which an effective dose of MDMA had been taken shortly earlier. There has developed a concept, embraced by a number of researchers, that the ease and quietness usually seen with the development of the MDMA experience can mitigate some of the physically disturbing symptoms sometimes seen with other psychedelics. This may be partly due to a familiar entry into a altered place, and partly due to a lessening of dosage usually required for full effects. MEM seems to have had more trials using this combination than many of the other psychedelic drugs.
This seems to be contrary to the general wisdom of contemporary drug culture, but I'm sure that very few of us are working with substances so positively identified, of such known purity, in such accurately and precisely measured amounts, in such controlled environments, with as much maturity and responsibility as the good doctor. While I have yet to experience that effect with either an SRA like MDMA or a dissociative like MXE (perhaps due to limited trials attempting such a combination), I could see Shuglin's logic above also applying to MXE in the right dose and setting. Food for thought. Nomnom on it.
