Heterodox approaches to Christian scripture

I see you're dominating this forum these days. In my mind, it was better when I dominated it. At least there was some variety and imagination. I bet the reading numbers have dropped significantly.

This example isn't analogous: disparaging commentary about a particular group in general is pretty different from disparaging commentary directed at a specific individual who posts here.

As it is, this post was borderline (we have rules in this sub-forum against proselytizing posts and intentionally provocative posts). Yes, Gnostic Bishop has a rather repetitious axe to grind, but people have replied with enough meaningful points already to warrant the thread staying open, assuming that posts to follow will be more like the better ones on the first page of this thread, not the relatively fruitless exchanges on the second.

That did not stop the church from ushering in the Dark Ages and Inquisition.

Christianity, over time, have murdered more of their own than any other religion.

They, like Islam, have a kill the infidels policy. Think crusade and know that Rome is so bloody it looks red from space. So to speak.

I do not think man was ever intended to eat of the tree oflife and you will note that nowhere in scriptures is it’s lose bemoaned.

We came out of Eden being as Gods and knowing all that heknows. God’s own words in this myth. They have become as Gods.

We are then denied the ability to have that knowledge liveforever as it would make man stagnate at whatever level of knowledge he hadthen, or even now if we extrapolate the story to where we are all Adams. Our knowledgecontinues to evolve.

The archetypal God in this myth does not want man to idolizehis own knowledge as that would stifle progress. We are to perpetually raisethe bar and not make an unchangeable immortal idol of what we know. We are todeny ourselves the immortality of our ideas and knowledge. They, like man, areto evolve forever.

I bet you never thought of this myth that way.

God says to love the sinnerand hate the sin. But scriptures say that, at the end of days, the numbers ofsouls in hell will far surpass the number of souls in heaven. The wide road ascompared to the narrow road.

If, at the end of days, Godmust destroy that many of us in the lake of fire, his hate would have to bemuch greater than the love he has for the relatively few that he will cling toand love in the place for eternal and ignorant bliss, heaven.

To my way of thinking, itwould be impossible to kill with love in one’s heart and so God would have tohave hate in his when he kills instead of cures all those souls. We do knowthat God does not need or have to kill, but will, and God cannot have love inhis heart when he does. That would be monstrous.

I know that love and hate forsouls are not necessarily proportional but even at ten to one, God must endwith a lot more hate than love in his heart when he pours the vast majority ofus into the lake of fire.

How then can God ask us tolove sinners and hate the sin when he hates the sinner and we are to follow hislead?

Yes and doing a poor job of it just as his apologists do. That is why Christianity had to use so much violence to have people kowtow to their idiotic beliefs.

I prefer not to get too hung up on what ancient texts may or may not say in individual cases. The proper process is cross referencing and analyzing all of them to find the common denominators in psychology and philosophical pursuit. So personally I couldn't give a fuck what Adam was doing or not doing haha.
 
I suggest you find yourself another "God".

Also, we don't need these daily lectures of the god you hate so much.

If you can't find any better version of God than that, maybe you should drop the subject alltogether. I hear Atheism is nice.

Indeed, we might as well limit the religios posts on thise board to his endless identical (I hate Christianity/God is evil) posts. It would be just like not having any religious posts at all. A win/win for some. Religious discussion is worthless after all.

I read (I dont' remember the source. Maybe it was Crowley.) that in some forms of gnosticism, humanity was created by the blind and hostile god Jehovah (the same god as the bible god iirc). Jehovah had some kind of conflict with the other gods including Sophia and Lucifer and in a fit of rage or frustration, he/she masturbated in defiance. I said he/she because Jehovah was a fertile hermaphrodite. That's how humanity was created. If you believe any of that, that might explain the divine hate you keep talking about.
